Our annual student recital takes place on Sunday 27 January at the Michael Croft Theatre at Alleyn's School. There are two recitals, one for younger students and one for our older students. If you have not received your registration form, let me know and I can email one to you.

We encourage all students to take part, even if you have only had a few lessons. If you are a bit nervous about performing, then your teacher will play a duet with you so that you are not on stage on your own! Click here to see some of the performances from last year's concert at Kingsdale Foundation School.

We also award lots of medals, trophies and certificates on the day to our students that have worked hard throughout the past year. You can read about last year's award winners below.

Senior Achievement Shield:
Ana M.
Ana constantly amazes me with her depth of expression and musical interpretation. She mostly plays contemporary music and I was delighted when she won the Beckenham Festival recently for her performance of "Where is My Mind" by The Pixies. Her performance stood heads and shoulders above all others and it was a well-deserved first place! She was also awarded third-place at the recent Dulwich Piano Festival in the Senior class.

Junior Achievement Shield:
Safiya W.

Safiya is one of our most dedicated students. Her commitment to daily practice at home has reaped rewards for her in the 2 years that she has been learning the piano. After a swift arrival at the Prep Test in July, she sat her Grade 1 exam in January 2012 achieving a very high distinction with 144 out of 150. She then sat her Grade 2 in July 2012, also achieving a distinction and is well on her way to being ready to sit her Grade 3 in early 2013. In addition, she has several festival performances under her belt with an excellent 3rd place at the highly competitive Croydon Festival in May 2011, and then a well-deserved 1st place at the recent Beckenham Festival in November 2011. She also received a highly commended at the Jaques Samuel festival earlier this year in March with her performance of her Grade 2 pieces which you can see here.

ABRSM Superstar awards:
Inigo S and Rumbie C

Inigo and Rumbie achieved excellent marks in their Grades 2 and 1 exams. Well done to you both! A special mention to Inigo who went straight from Prep Test to achieving a Merit at Grade 2 - a really excellent result that required lots of hard graft.

Beginners’ Cup:
Alice S.

Alice has only been learning the piano a very short amount of time but has shown to be very musically sensitive and thoughtful in her interpretation of pieces. We were delighted that the adjudicator at Beckenham also thought the same of her festival pieces where Alice won 3rd place. Alice sat her Grade 1 exam and achieved a distinction in March 2012. She then went on to achieve a very high Merit at her Grade 2 harpsichord exam in July 2012.

Practice-a- Thon Awards:
The following students helped raise over £520 for CLIC Sargent children with cancer through the Practice-a-Thon challenge. What an amazing fundraising effort by our young pianists. Our initial target was £250 so we are thrilled with the final amount raised. We will run this event again at the end of the year so do sign up for this worthy cause!
Safiya W, Albert G, Olivia M, Poppy W, Hannah W, Theo B, Merlin B, Scarlett K, Alice S, Jocelyn B, Susanna D, Iris S, Gracie

Performance Award:
Frances Wilson will award this to the most exciting performance of the afternoon.
