On the Road to Recovery
We've all been down on our luck before or known someone who has hit a bad streak -- but when luck runs out for animals at the hands of humans, that's an egregious act of cruelty. In our last E-newsletter, we told you about HSSF Humane Officers changing a bad luck situation for seven horses in one rescue operation and two ponies in another.
Recently our Officers prepared reports and submitted evidence on these two cases to the Placer County District Attorney's office, with a recommendation that felony animal neglect charges be filed. Meanwhile, our Officers are back in the field looking after more animals and responding to calls.
The rescued animals are now flourishing on green pastures dotted with pails of grain filled to the brim and flakes of fresh hay. They've been brushed, bathed and medically cared for -- looking forward to new and bright beginnings. After all, that's one of the incredible things about animals, they never feel sorry for themselves or hold a grudge. In their unique sense of innocence, each day is a new beginning. Each moment is front and center, here and now. It's a quality that endears us to them.
The fine horses on our ADOPTION PAGE now need help to find "a room of their own." If you can give them a home, or if you know someone who would enjoy providing these gentle souls with forever pastures and "shelter from storms," please pass along this message to them.
