Dear Friends,

When you support the Humane Society of the Sierra Foothills, you choose an organization that cares deeply about the health and wellbeing of animals. Our donors are the heroes who ensure that this important nonprofit organizaiton (the only one with Humane Officers in the region) can continue to provide this much-needed service for our community - enforcing animal abuse and neglect violations.

The wheels of justice move slowly, but one of HSSF's biggest seizures in the summer of 2011 was settled this year with a conviction. Most of the 70+ rescued animals were rehabilitated and adopted out to wonderful forever homes. Currently, other HSSF cases have pending court dates, and we are optimistic that the perpetrators will be found guilty.

Throughout 2012, HSSF responded to calls from citizens reporting animal neglect or abuse throughout Placer County. HSSF investigated the calls, and where owners would not cooperate to correct unacceptable conditions, the animals were rescued and removed through the legal process. When animals have to be seized, they are rehabilitated and when healthy, adopted to wonderful forever homes.

From initial responses and repeated visits, to search warrants and citations, each and every case takes financial muscle to process. HSSF must hire professionals to evaluate animal conditions, incur enormous veterinary bills to restore them to a healthy condition, hire professional transporters to remove animals and take them to safe locations.

Often, necessary medical treatments can last months, and special diets must be provided 2-3 times per day.

It's EXPENSIVE, but we won't turn our backs on animals who deserve to be treated humanely, rehabilitated, and placed in proper, caring homes.

sheep

Thanks to your support this year, abused and neglected animals in our community are receiving the care they need.

We hope you'll consider making a tax-deductible donation to HSSF so that together we can save even more animals in 2013.
