The stage is being set up in the park behind our home in anticipation for the fourth annual Phoenicia Festival of the Voice. My very best wishes to my co-founders Maria and Louis for a very successful festival next weekend

It is always somewhat surreal and incredibly uplifting when dreams become reality. When Bex, Rosa and I moved to this little hamlet in the mountains seven years ago, we were standing in the Parish Field where the Festival Stage is now being set and Bex looked around and said to me "You should do an opera here". In typical man style, I gave her the "look" and questioned how this could possibly manifest. A couple of years later I was standing on the same spot in the field and happened to overhear a conversation between two mothers who were discussing how money could be raised for playground equipment for the park. A light went on in my mind as I recalled Bex's idea. I mentioned to the mothers that I thought I could pull together an open air opera concert as a fundraiser. I invited my opera singing neighbors Maria and Louis to join me, borrowed a tent and spread the word. Opera Under the Stars was a great success and Maria, Louis and I banded together and developed the idea of a Festival devoted to the celebration of the human voice.

I hope everyone will come along to Phoenicia this coming weekend and enjoy the Festival of the Voice. "Rigoletto" is one of my personal favorites and will really be a treat to see Louis perform this amazing role.

While building the Festival of the Voice as Executive Director from 2010 to 2012, I would often walk around all the beautiful areas of Kingston with Bex and the kids and fantasize about creating a major arts festival which included all genres of arts from dance to opera, chamber music to sculpture, performance art to theater- a festival which would be inclusive of all people and creative types everywhere and have the power to repaint Kingston's cultural landscape. In the same way I manifested Festival of the Voice, Kingston Festival of the Arts is a now a reality. This year it will be one day on August 24th and next year eleven days at the end of August. Mayor Gallo and the city have welcomed me with open arms and share my vision of revitalizing beautiful Kingston with a mega infusion of arts, culture and cuisine through the creation of a city wide arts festival for the new century. You can check out all details at www.KingstonFestival.org

I hope to see all my friends in Kingston August 24!
