Some links are affiliate links meaning, at no additional cost to you, I may get a small commission if you make a purchase. Thanks for your support in this way!

1. How to know which projects to accept and which to reject

A fair number of requests to collaborate, write, promote, advertise or speak land in my inbox (not to mention the opportunities in other areas of life–holiday activities anyone?). Many sound good, making it hard to know which to pursue and which not to pursue. Then I read Stephanie St. Claire's point #8 in 11 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started My Business and it was a lightbulb moment for me. She says it stronger than I would, but basically, only say yes to the opportunities that are, "OH MY STARS, YES!!!" and forget the rest. I like that simple measuring stick.

2. Embed code cheat sheet

A while ago I wrote How to Embed Tweets & Ways to Use Them. Using content directly from social media platforms can be a nice way to recycle and enhance your blog. In How to Add HTML Embed Codes to Your Website [Quick Tip], Ginny Soskey provides a cheat sheet of sorts, demonstrating how to find embed code for all the major social media platforms. Handy.

3. Traditional vs. digital publishing: what will you do?

I read this post & discussion with interest of course, and here's what I think. As Rachelle alluded to, traditional publishing used to be the way books got sold. Just like horse-and-buggies were the way to get around. But now digital publishing is how books are getting sold. Just like cars get us around. It's how things go. One is cumbersome but nostalgic. The other is mechanical but efficient. Neither are evil and there's something to be said about both. As an author, you just have to decide which is more important to you and go with it.

4. Subject lines can make or break your email open rates

Even the slightest variations can make a big difference. Like, try using "freebie" instead of "free" and see if your open rates go up. This sort of stuff is good to know.

5. In other news...

I don't know about you, but gifts for the grandparents are hard for me. This year, I'm in deep like with these. Even though I don't enjoy Narnia, this is pretty cool. And listening to this makes me realize how wild and crazy this journey has been! I'm so grateful.

Have a great weekend!
