You spoke, We heard!

This symbolic motto was celebrated at the Harlem Renovation Open House.
For many years, our Harlem branch has been open for three days a week but beginning in March 2013 we are expanding our hours of operations to five business days including late afternoons. This decision was made after a member survey done in December of last year where members of the Harlem branch enthusiastically spoke and said that their branch should offer more hours. Therefore, on March 6th,at 2052 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd from noon until 3:00pm, we celebrated the Harlem Renovation Open House which exemplified the desire from members to have more business hours and in addition, we gave the branch a facelift. At the branch, we were joined by members of the credit union, members of the community, credit union enthusiasts, local business owners and a local artist, John Van Means who gladly showed his work and embellished our recent renovated Harlem branch walls.

Mr. John Van Means who is a Proud Member of our credit union not only exhibited his art work but also donated a beautiful piece “the Lady with the Slanted Eyes” to be the prize of our free raffle. LES People’s FCU member Lamont Curry won the raffle at 3:00pm and received the art piece. We all enjoyed Dominican empanadas from D’Milton restaurant, delicious cake pops donated by NY CAKE POPS, a carrot cake that was freshly made (same day) by Proud Member Ms. Dyer, hot coffee from Starbucks, thanks Nazaire, and cheese and crackers.
During the open house, the Harlem branch was having a sort of family reunion while regular credit union operations were taking place. Our Proud Members were excited about the expanded hours; staff members were opening accounts for new members while some “curious” ones inquiring about information on how to join the credit union, how to qualify for a loan, current promotions, etc.
After a few minutes of mingling most guests agreed that LES People’s FCU was much needed in the community. One Proud Member compared the credit union to a “treasure in the jungle that people need to know about it”. There was a repeated phrase going around the lobby that LES People’s FCU offers better opportunities to their members in terms of financial and banking independence compared to commercial banks.
We, the credit union staff, are very thankful for the support our members have shown during these changes making us feel empowered for the next change that will make us improve together as a community development financial institution.
