Happy New Year - Happy New Laws?

Does California really need 876 more laws? The short answer is, probably NOT. When you get done choking and gaging, here are a few that you might need to know.

AB 1844 prohibits employers from requiring workers or job applicants to provide user names and/or passwords for social media sites. Dah!

AB 1083 shall cover self-employed people by California's law governing small business health insurance. Previously, businesses had to have at least two employees to qualify. Backers argued that the change, effective in 2014, will expand the availability of affordable coverage to entrepreneurs.

AB 1453 - California Health Care Coverage Law. Defines exactly what essential health benefits are provided at the state level, clarifying the broad language of the Obamacare federal health care law. Law effective January 1, 2014. Fasten your seatbelts!

AB 1583 - To deal with pallet theft, this bill would prohibit junk dealers and recyclers from purchasing or receiving merchandise pallets, as defined, marked with an indicia of ownership, as defined, from anyone except the indicated owner, unless specified information is provided to the junk dealer or recycler, and would require the junk dealer or recycler to maintain a written record of that information. Darn, there goes my weekend job.

AB 2367 - School gardens, sale of produce. Allows schools to sell produce from their school gardens as long as existing health and safety requirements are met. I hope the kids have a place to wash their hands with warm water and soap?

AB 1427 Adds contact with a solution of ozone as an additional option to manual sanitization. Ozone solution must the requirements of Federal Regulations and that is generated by a device located onsite at the food facility.

SB 1465 Requires all manufacturers of Asian rice-based noodles shall place a label on the packaging of Asian rice-based noodles that indicates the date and time that the product first came out of hot holding at temperatures above 135 degrees Fahrenheit and includes a statement that the Asian rice-based noodles are perishable.

AB 1616 legalizes a cottage industry that’s been operating clandestinely for years. The California Homemade Food Act allows entrepreneurs to use their home kitchens to prepare certain foods for sale to the public, including breads, muffins, cakes, pies and other items that don’t contain cream or meat, which can spoil. Home cooks must complete a food processing course and open their kitchens to public health inspections — a common-sense approach that helps ensure food safety, while giving mom-and-pop businesses a break. Would you go to a restaurant to buy food someone made in their kitchen at home?

Bon appetit

Your customers and mine are looking online

I have come to the realization the Internet is not going away any time soon. With the addition of smartphones and apps over the past few years, I have decided to optimize my company’s online presence. This includes changing and improving my approach to online marketing and ensuring that FS&T is on every search engine, directory service, social media site, online map and city guide, and they are pointing my potential customers to FS&T and not to my competitors.

If you are a retail outlet such as a restaurant, you really should consider optimizing your online presence. I recommend it and I can recommend a local company to assist you. Just ask.

Since our online presence is fairly new, I am asking for a minute or two of your time to review our company online. We would like to know what think, and your review will not only help us, it will help other customers as each review will be listed online for the world to see.

We strive to offer the utmost in affordable, personal, prompt, and professional safety solutions and training. We sincerely hope that you are pleased with our services. If at any time you have concerns or questions, I may be reached at (805)591-9257.

Thank you for your time and business. We look forward to seeing your reviews.

Best regards,
Garth Maijala, Owner & Principal Instructor
