A Night at the Movies - April 26th

Our next Cinema Evening will take place this coming Saturday, April 26th.

Philomena is a fast-moving detective story, comedy, and theological disputation, based on a true story. Each character has a perspective - Martin Sixsmith’s is declared within the first minute, “I don’t believe in God.” Philomena’s comes out more gradually, but does it change during the course of the film? Her son’s comes out more by implication. The Catholic sister’s comes out bitterly at the end. I found my own sympathies shifting all during the film, but do any of these perspectives represent what we really seek? Characters are deeply hurt in the film, but is there any genuine forgiveness? This film stars Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, was nominated for 4 Oscars, and is rated PG-13.

Come at about 5:45 pm, and bring a potluck dish with enough for yourselves and two other people. Feel free to bring friends! We will show the film at about 7:00. Since it is an hour and 40 minutes long, we will have good time for discussion afterwards.

Happy Easter! Chris & Naomi Morris
