Broken Spokes

We welcome to The Coffeehouse, from Ann Arbor - Broken Spokes. The Coffeehouse's good friend, Dan Brown is in the group and we're thrilled they'll play a major set Friday night.

“We Broken Spokes love a good song. What makes a good song, you might ask? Based on our play list, you’d guess it should have a tuneful melody and say something about heartbreak, redemption and/or water. Based on our arrangements, it would be reasonable to conclude that it has room for two and three-part harmonies, a bit of jamming, and playful rhythms. Based on how much wine we sometimes drink at practice, it should probably be easy to remember. Most of all, it should be fun to play and listen to.

So, we’ve gathered some of our favorite songs from the Americana songbook, new and old, from Johnny Cash to the Grateful Dead, from REM to the Decemberists, and from Bill Monroe to Son Volt. We play them over and over again to get them right, and hope to play them for you sometime. We hope you like to listen to them, with or without wine, as much as we like to play them.

Members: Dan Brown, Jen Green, Mike Sousa, Bill Welsh, Kelsey Thomas

Don always has something to say...usually comically and with great wit. Welcome back Don!

Ed Baker

Ed is a popular guy...when a good friend who was cast in Riverwalk's October show, "Advise and Consent" had to withdraw due to health concerns, Ed stepped in and the show went on. This meant, of course, that he had to miss the October edition of The Coffeehouse. Well, he's back and we're glad!

Jim Jersey

Jim will entertain us with some old favorites. Welcome back Jim.
