Written by Shermaine Nettles, GROW Intern

Portia Dowell is a Nashville native who works as an IT Administrator at Deloitte professional services. In her role as IT Administrator, she manages day to day business processes and special projects for leased asset management in the United States and India.

Portia has been a member of GROW for two years; she and a colleague joined together. In her role as a GROW member, she has worked with the team that plans silent auctions at the organization’s golf tournaments.

Walking the green and practicing her swing at the range always helps Portia relieve stress; while getting in great exercise!

Although she is a beginner, she knows that she is growing to become a better golfer for her personal life and her professional life.

“I like watching this sport on TV. After travelling on business trips with male counterparts and being left behind during downtime, I knew it was time to learn the game.”

When the IT administrator has free time, Portia focuses her energy on empowering youth and adults on financial literacy. She also serves as president of theNational Association of Black Accountants Incorporated (NABA) – Nashville Chapter. Portia enjoys long walks and playtime with her 18 month mini pinscher, Roni.

In addition to the networking and golfing opportunities available within the organization. She appreciates the elegance of GROW as a whole and agrees that it is every woman’s mission to help other women GROW.
