Welcome to Edition 32 of Fair News

Message from Susy

The Fair Trade Fortnight 2014 is over and we had a ball organising all the events.

The fortnight delivered very powerful messages about the spirit of collaboration and the benefits of ethical business practices and ethical purchasing.
Even thought the fortnight is now over, I urge each one of you, as citizens of this global community, to think about what changes you are going to make in your life to contribute to a better future for all.

Moral Fairground welcomes new Ambassador

Noelene

Noelene Marchwicki

We welcome Noelene Marchwicki (Masterchef 2013) as our latest Ambassador

Noelene was one of the contributors to the amazing menu at the Fair Trade Mothers' Day High Tea. We asked Noelene to join the Moral Fairground team of Ambassadors because of her passion for food, farming communities and food wastage.

We asked Noelene where her passion about food comes from and this is what she had to share with us. "The seed to my passion " food "was planted many years ago by my family. As a child we lived a totally sustainable lifestyle , milking the house cow by hand for milk and cream , picking the first mushrooms in autumn from the still warm soil , growing all our kitchen vegetables , picking the fruit from the orchards , slaughtering the animals for meat , hanging the carcass in the tractor shed and somehow knowing the right time to cut the meat .
Food is the basic means to survival.
My father warned our family that through the growth of industry and without precaution and respect for the environment that the world would start to heat ....and that was way back then."

So what do we do , what can we do?
We must raise awareness , we must voice our concerns , each one of us has the power of choice , as a group we have the power to make people listen and to change policies.
Support local, grow your own , utilise neighbourhood centres to share produce and knowledge .
_Respect the earth and our environment , support the businesses that buy and sell local produce . Fresh produce straight from the earth may have a few spots on the skin or not have the perfect shape , on the other hand the produce will be chemical free and the flavours will be rich and true." Noelene

Message from Melanie Raymond the Chair of our Charity Partner Youth Projects

We're so fortunate to be part of Fair Trade fortnight. Youth Projects is an example of social justice in action every day as we work at the grass root level supporting the poorest people in our community with health care, education, training and employment.
The principles od Fair Trade fortnight and the work of Moral Fairground make us natural partners and allies. And collaboration is the key to making a genuine impact to improve people's lives locally and globally
We're proud to join in the incredible spirit and creativity of all those involved in Fair Trade Fortnight. In particular we want to thank all those who organised and attended The Fair Trade Mother's Fay HIgh Tea. The funds raised support our new homeless women's clinic in the heart of Melbourne, a one of kind service that empowers women with confidence and support for a new future.
We invite all our friends in the fair trade movement to keep in touch with us, drop by and, if possible, continue to support our services. We are an independent, community run charity with low costs and high impact. Every day and night of the year we have outreach teams on the streets skilled up properly assist in crisis situations when no-one else is out there. We don't turn anyone away.

Right now we need blankets, scarves, gloves and beanies for distribution, and small tubes of toothpaste. If you are interested in donating, we are at 7-9 Hosier Lane Melbourne, or you can make a donation on line at Youth Projects

Corporate Leadership Event

Over 50 years ago a young Jane Goodall ventured into the forests of Tanzania to help humans learn more about ourselves by studying chimpanzees. Jane's findings changed the way we think about ourselves and how leaders can choose to lead their organisation.
She has enjoyed an extraordinary journey and her inspirational story is one of adaptation, resilience, innovation, hope, courage and passion.

Jane will share insights that help leaders design and lead high-performing organisations by using the force of nature rather than denying or fighting nature.
