Hello everyone,

Welcome back friends! And welcome new families to this beautiful region! Hope you enjoyed the summery weather outdoors - we did some great canoe camping in Quebec, Canada.

September brings us back to school and work, but also a perfect time of year for hikes and family activities. Sign up on the calendar www.fraicheair.ch. Registered participants will get an email with activity details and carpool/meeting point and time.

▪ Sun 1 September - Family Hike & Chocolate Factory - Gruyeres (CH)
Now this is what you were waiting for! Combine a fun family hike in the Gruyere regions, past a lake and a spectacular gorge with wooden bridges and rock galleries. Top it off with a visit to the Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory (English audiovisual tour booked for our group).

▪ Tues 3 September - Powerwalk - Vesancy (FR)
A great powerwalk with a solid climb up to a pretty chapel with views over Mont Mussy to the Alps. A good one to check out for use with your visitors, or a Sunday family hike after visiting the market in Divonne-les-Bains.

Get in shape for ski season by building up our strength and endurance with a powerwalk 'plus'. We'll discover the old Roman road from Trelex to St. Cergue. Come and meet our new activity leader Alison Smith!

▪ Fri 20 September - Hike - Salève (FR)
Back by popular demand. Join us for a climb up the Salève, the iconic mountain located in neighbouring France. On top we’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views over Geneva and Lac Leman, including Mont Blanc on a clear day.

▪ Sun 22 September - Family Day Mushrooming - Col de Marchairuz (CH)
Our local guide and Swiss mushroom expert will take us on an easy walk for the whole family to learn all about the many species of wild mushrooms, and then taste some over a campfire! Hot chocolate and local pies afterwards.

▪ Sun 29 September - Hike - Rochers de Naye (CH)
Get out of town on the weekend! The prominent rocks of Rochers-de-Naye above Montreux constitute one of the most beautiful vantage points in the region. Panoramic views across Lake Geneva and the surrounding Alps.

Alison Smith - New Activity Leader

We have a new activity leader joining our team! Alison grew up living by the banks of the River Wear in Durham. Her childhood was spent outdoors, hiking, biking and camping in Scotland and the Lake District. Switzerland became her new home in 1985 when she started her career in the International Organisations. Her free time was spent exploring the Alps, Himalayas and other areas around the world, including a winter season in Aonach Mòr, Scotland as a ski patroller. She met her mountaineering enthusiast husband in 1993 and he soon proposed to her on Kilimanjaro! Their two boys thoroughly enjoy the outdoor life, refuges, hiking, climbing and skiing in and out of Switzerland.
Alison is delighted to have the opportunity of working with Yvette and getting to know fraiche air's fun-loving outdoor members.

Where we were recently... summer hikes

6 July - Family Hike & Swim, Grand Paradis (CH)

A fun multi-activity day in the beautiful Val d’Illiez valley. We started with a hike to a waterfall in Grand Paradis, then an exciting gorge trail and picnic. We finished off with a swim in the beautiful hotsprings with views of the Dents du Midi.

20 July - Hike, Le Moleson (CH)

Gorgeous hike up the imposing Le Moleson! OK, we admit we saved a few 100m taking the funiculaire but still did a steep climb up and reached the summit, the kids leading the group! Rewarded ourselves tasting the local meringue with gruyere cream, and macaroni with gruyere cheese.
