LISC expands toolbox for digital learning

In today’s world, where job applications are submitted online and neighborhood news arrives via computers and mobile apps, having access to the Internet is no longer an option. It’s a necessity. To equip residents with the tools to access that information, LISC Chicago has helped fund full-time digital literacy trainers at 12 FamilyNet Centers around the city, offering a range of coursework from basic computing and Internet usage to advanced training in office software. The free trainings and open computer labs will help about 1,000 residents per month get online to fill out job applications, research community issues, participate in social networking and connect to government services. North Lawndale's MLK dream is on display

The MLK Fair Housing Exhibit Center, which opened in January, is the newest addition to the MLK Memorial District on Chicago's West Side. It’s a multi-block zone conceived in 2005 as part of a neighborhood quality-of-life planning process supported by LISC Chicago and its New Communities Program. The Center pulls together photos, memorabilia, news accounts and personal remembrances of Dr. King’s 1966 stay near 16th Street and Hamlin in North Lawndale. See more details....
