Dear Beautiful Friends,

In less than two days, I will board a plane to attend the International Wisdom Gathering of Gratitude - to Mother Earth, in Dalfsen, The Netherlands. I have been asked to lead some workshops about Sacred Gardening and connecting with Earth Mother there. This is such a humbling and remarkable experience to be able to travel to another continent, another culture to share with other Wisdomkeepers who will be at this event.

Flying over the Atlantic and part of the European continent in the space of hours is a reminder of how small the world is these days. And when I get off the plane and arrive in Dalfsen, I’m going to sink my barefeet into the grass there and kiss Earth Mother. She is the same Mother regardless of whether I’m in North America or Europe. And it will be a joy to experience the beautiful ways She expresses Herself in the birds, flowers and trees there, which are different than here in Maryland.

What I am most looking forward to at this Wisdom Gathering is experiencing the heartfelt love that these organizers have for Mother. One of the co-leaders spent some time studying with Grandmother Twyla Nitsch, a gifted Seneca teacher who passed in 2007 (see story at end of newsletter). It will be a gift to share with these new friends all the different ways that we can express our love for Earth Mother and learn how to connect with Her more deeply. I’m just thrilled to be invited to be part of this Gathering.

Speaking of humbling and being thrilled, I learned in late May that Messages from Mother…. Earth Mother has received two more awards. To date these are the awards bestowed on the book:

WINNER - Green Living Category, 2013 National Indie Excellence Awards
Finalist - Spirituality Category, 2013 National Indie Excellence Awards
Finalist - Nature Category, 2013 ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year Awards

With this recognition, my hope is that these Messages will reach an even broader audience so that more people may come to embrace Earth Mother and reconnect with Her sacredness.

Below are some upcoming fun workshops and events. I will be discussing Earth Mother’s 13 Commandments south of Annapolis, Maryland, at the Unity on the Bay church on July 7th. These Commandments were given to me after intense ceremony all night last summer and it is now time for me to talk more about them.

In July, I will be leading some workshops on how to have a more Sacred Relationship with Earth Mother in New York State and Canada (just southwest of Niagara). And then another in Frederick, MD, in August.

Then on August 10th, several very talented friends of mine, Hillary Banachowski and Andrea McCluskey, and I are co-leading a very fun Sacred Feminine Play Day. There is more information below, including an Early Registration link.

And more... see events below... :~)

I hope to see you at one or more of these fun events!

Blessings, blessings, Mare

Toward a More Sacred Relationship with Earth Mother

Tree-SkyMother

Earth Mother or Pachamama goes by many names around the world depending on the culture one is in. While many raised in the Judeo-Christian culture don’t recognize Her existence, She most definitely exists. This workshop will discuss who Earth Mother is and different spiritual practices to develop a closer relationship with Her. We’ll go over what it means to claim our relationship with Her and how to do it, building an altar to Her, connecting with Her outside, and honoring Her through the month. We are all Her children and we are being called to reconnect with Her to help birth the New World ahead. This introductory workshop will provide spiritual tools to benefit Earth Mother and ourselves.

Workshops will be held at the following locations during July and August:

July 16th, 7-9pm, Rochester, NY at the Purple Door Source Source. $35/person. Book signing from 6-7pm.

July 23, 6:30-8:30pm, Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada (South of Niagara) at the New Realm Healing Center. $35/person. Book signing to follow.

July 24, 7-9pm, North Tonawanda (Buffalo), NY at Spiritually Rooted. $35/person. Book signing from 6-7pm.

Aug 3, 11:30-1pm, Frederick, MD, at The Owl Nest. $30/person. Book signing to follow.

The Great Spirit is in all things, he is in the air we breathe. The Great Spirit is our Father, but the Earth is our Mother. She nourishes us, that which we put into the ground she returns to us.... - Big Thunder (Bedagi) Wabanaki Algonquin

Native American Mysticism &
Connecting with the Landkeepers

Saturday, June 29

Morning Session: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
Afternoon Session: 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Join Mi’kmaq author Evan Pritchard for a special event involving both history and ceremony. Landkeepers are Native Americans who lived and perfected themselves spiritually long ago, and made a vow to watch over the land in spirit form “as long as the grass shall grow,” protecting the environment and those who work with the land, Mother Earth.

This is a two part workshop. The morning session will concentrate on Native American mysticism and the afternoon Evan will focus on the basics of who the landkeepers are and how to invite them into your life, how to communicate with them and make them feel honored and welcomed. He will answer questions about the benefits of connecting with the landkeepers.

Digging a Hole Big Enough to Sit In

by Grandmother Twylah Nitsch (New York, 1920 - 2007)

I must have been under five when I spent one whole summer day digging a hole with a large spoon in the side of a bank near our house. I had to dig and dig because the ground was so full of roots and my goal was to make a hole big enough to sit in - like a cave. And that took a lot of hard work. Digging through all those roots was tough.

What I remember most about the experience is something my grandmother said. “When you take the dirt out, make sure you have a place for it,” she cautioned me, “because the dirt is used to being in that particular place, and it is at home there. Don’t take anything that is part of something and just scatter it around. Remember you are disturbing the home of the worms and the insects. You are moving them out of the place where they have been living, and you need to make sure that they are happy about where you are taking them.” So I would scoop the dirt into a little basket I had and take it around to various spots. “Is this where you would like to be?” I’d ask. And if the answer was yes, I would leave it. Otherwise, I’d pick up my basket, go to another spot, and ask again.

When I had finally made the hole deep enough to sit in, I would crawl in there and listen. I could hear the earth talking.

A Seneca elder and a member of the Wolf Clan, Twylah Nitsch did not begin sharing the sacred teachings and traditions of her people until she was in her seventies. She lectured widely, using her Seneca name, Yehwehnode, “she whose voice rides the wind.” She was often told by her audience how perfectly she exemplifies the sacred wisdom that develops in elderhood for those who seek it. Inner guidance came to her through a precise experience in the solar plexus, an actual sense of movement occurring there. Grandmother Twyla passed in 2007. This excerpt is from The Feminine Face of God by Sherry Ruth Anderson and Patricia Hopkins.
