Dear St. Andrew's Families,

I never once in my life thought I would sing and dance on a stage, but that is exactly what I and seven other faculty members will do two hours from now as a small part of The Pirates of Penzance (watch tonight via livestream). It will no doubt serve as a great reminder of what we ask students to do on a daily basis: get uncomfortable and surprise yourself.

I imagine and hope that students have felt how I'm feeling right now (like my insides are turning inside out) many times this year. The students above probably felt it heading into opening statements during today's Mock Trial competition in Wilmington. Students will feel it when they climb the starting docks in the pool during the State Swimming Championships and during tipoff of the State Basketball Championships this week and hopefully well into March.

It's a little bit fun and a lot more scary, but in the end they'll all learn something about themselves that might not have known was there.

Sincerely,
Will Robinson '97

P.S. — Phone Call Fodder: Many students are in the throes of English exhibitions from now until spring break where they have to read a book and write a paper entirely on his or her own.

Winter Play — Neil Simon's "Rumors"

Students performed Neil Simon's great farce "Rumors" on the Engelhard Hall stage last weekend. The two-night run featured Sydney Young, Tiffany Cabrera, Charlie Scott, Josue Chavez, Danica Danardatu, Zach Meadows, Nadiri Saunders, Hugo Henthoff, Aija Cave, and Paul Egan under the guidance of director Emily Pressman. Saints Squash Shines at Mid-Atlantic Championships

The boys finished first and the girls second at this year's Mid-Atlantic Squash Organization Championships hosted at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va. The tournament was the end of a great season for both teams that saw improvement across the program. Thank you to Chris Childers, Lindsay Wright, Mark Allen, Eric Finch, Jory Kahan, and Shanshan Xu for coaching a great season.

We owe a special thanks to Pep Ruckpanich for coaching the JV boys after suffering a torn ACL this fall. Pep was one of the team's top players heading into his senior year and never lost his enthusiasm of love for the sport or his teammates. JV player Kieran Murphy '16 was one of many who benefited from Pep's leadership. "Pep's knowledge and love of the game, as well as his dedication to our team, helped us to develop a strong work ethic, improve our skills, and discover our own love of squash." Thank you, Pep!

In the Classroom

I poked my head into Chiachyi Chiu's Chinese I class today and found students composing songs using new vocabulary words. Chiachyi was whirling around the class helping the small groups of students while a constant hum of a traditional Chinese song underscored the scene.
