Finding Your Dream Job In China: Revisiting the 2011 Panel

The key takeaways from iTV-Asia "Finding Your Dream Job in China" panel event are just as relevant today as they were back in June 2011. The panelists were:

Kelly Qian, Executive Partner, The Jace-Kelly Leadership Acquisitions
Frank Mulligan, Visiting Faculty, CEIBS
Larry Wang, Founder/CEO, Wang & Li Asia Resources

Finding-Your-Dream-Job

With 50 years of combined professional experience in China, they shared their expertise and insights on employment market realities in this increasingly complex landscape.

Selected takeaways include:

This employment market is highly competitive. To catch employers' attention, showcase your your track record of success "in China."
Your resume should go beyond merely listing jobs and their responsibilities. It should highlight concrete, quantifiable contributions to past employers.
When interviewing, be ready to tell verifiable stories that provide proof of your performance.
A LinkedIn profile is a must-have. All three of our panelist use Linkedin to source and research talent. So do companies.
There is a lot of highly qualified talent in this market (with credentials such as MBA). You must communicate why you are unique if you want to stand out from the crowd.

Kelly, Frank, and Larry encouraged job seekers to take the time to identify what their dream job is in the first place, develop a track record of success in that space, and be able to clearly communicate these achievements to prospective employers (or to your current employer) as evidence of the ability to do more of the same.
