Dear printmakers and non printmakers alike,

I am writing to draw your attention to my next cluster of workshops and courses.

WEEKLY CLASSES

These start again on the 9th and 10th January, running right through to the 10th April. I have some spaces left on the Thursday evenings so if you're interested in coming on a regular basis feel free to get in touch. Coming regularly serves many purposes, continuity and regular contact with lots of other like-minded people being two of the most important. The weekly class provides a pivotal moment in the week, drawing everyone together to exchange creative ideas and feedback.

WEEKEND COURSES

There are 3 weekend sessions between Christmas and Easter. I am running two collagraph and carborundum courses, the first on the 1st and 2nd February, and the second on the 12th and 13th April. I strongly recommend these courses - the pure enjoyment of trying out different materials just to see what happens, and the excitement of having absolutely no idea of how it's going to turn out is what makes this process so compelling. Of course, the potential of the collagraph and carborundum technique is much more sophisticated than this, but if you're interested in playfulness as a starting point - then do come. And if you have no idea what the technique is about then feel free to get in touch to find out! The image at the top of this newsletter is one of my recent collagraphs (85 x 59 cms) and it's a ghost print taken from a substrate of plywood and a layer of tile cement.

The third weekend, 22nd and 23rd March, falls between the two. It's for beginners who might feel uncomfortable about working with those who are more experienced. So if you feel a bit nervous about being thrown in at the deep end this is the course for you.

THREE DAYS - WORKING WITH COLOUR - ETCHING, COLLAGRAPH AND MONOTYPE

This course runs between Monday 10th and Wednesday 12th March and is for those with some experience of printmaking in general. The 3 days will evolve according to each individual’s need and give us time to relax and have a good look at other artists’ work as well as discuss each other’s as we go along. We will be picking and choosing from various colour techniques, e.g. the multiple plate print (particularly in etching), viscosity printing (in etching, collagraph and monotype), the “dolly” method of inking up a colour etching plate, chine collé, masks and stencils, hints and tips about inking up collagraph plates, monotype and monoprint, colour reduction linocut, and multiple block linocut (availability of the latter two depends on attendance numbers).

For more information on all these courses click here, and if you would like to make a booking, please download a booking form from the website and either send it by e.mail (see website) or through the post. It is always good to touch base with me first to check availablity.

I look forward to hearing from you and I know it's a bit early - but have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.

All the best
Mary
