Please join us for the inaugural Bobby Boyd Leadership Lecture, Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, 5:45 p.m., at the UNC School of Social Work. This event is free and open to the public. Bryan Samuels, executive director of Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago and former commissioner of the Administration on Children, Youth and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will speak on “Leadership, Evidence and Accountability in Child Welfare.” Read story

Fund enables research study on parents with mental illness

In North Carolina, very little is known about the life circumstances and experiences of parents with severe mental illness who become entangled in the state child welfare system. But a pilot study recently launched by Clinical Assistant Professor Laurie Selz Campbell could help shine a little more light on the subject. Read story

Staff’s creative thinking saves School over $6,000

Recently, a classroom at the UNC School of Social Work was converted into one capable of web conferencing for distance learning. A generous private donation covered the cost of the technical equipment, but new tables and a different kind of chair for the students would also be needed to maximize the facility. Read about the creative recycling idea three staff members came up with that saved thousands.
