Sally Sara - We were Inspired!

I wondered why we featured this photo in our early promotion but can now understand the importance of her camoflage - evidently if Sally was recognised as a woman she would be surrounded by children. This would distract her from the important job of watching where she walked - such a powerful message for me. So many amazing stories of her time in Afghanistan but generally told with humour. Very moving and inspiring story - thanks for the memories.

Websites Making Sense

Karen Leslie & Elizabeth Hodges (1)

Karen Leslie with Elizabeth Hodges

There were many eager faces in attendance at the latest breakfast meeting held at the Commodore on the Park on 12th September to hear from Karen Leslie of Mount Gambier Website Design. Karen spoke about what to think about when designing an effective website, that you need to understand your customers needs and most importantly to make the site easy for them to use. Your website should be kept up to date, with content added weekly and the effectiveness of your website monitored regularly. She also had some handy tips on how to attract 'traffic' to your site. The advantages of linking your site to other social media, such as, facebook and making sure it is compatible for use with smart phones were highlighted. The 20 participants would have gained many new ideas to improve or set up great websites for their business from this very informative talk.

Member Profile - Sandi Elsden Sewing

For the past 5 years I have been making and selling products for Child Care Centres. Originally I started making what I call Kindy Linen Kits and these became my signature product however I have since diversified and also make Parent’s Communication Pockets as well as fitted sheets and baby doll nappy and bib sets.
The Kindy Linen Kits consist of a fitted bottom sheet which has an attached over sheet (either attached down one side or across the bottom) and some kits have an attached pillow case with a detachable pillow and on the underside of the fitted bottom sheet is a drawstring bag into which the linen folds after each use and for easy storage.
The Parent’s Communication Pockets are made from durable material with pockets (all double sewn for strength and durability) for the Centres to use to hold newsletter, accounts etc. for the parents to collect. All of my products can be made to each Centres specific requirements and is only limited by the Directors imagination as I have a large range of material in all colours of the rainbow. Contact Sandi or Mobile 0438090249 Editor's Note - I have picked up notes from your pockets for my grandkids - wonderful to see a homebased business in Kingston fill a niche market - well done!

SALLY SARA EVENT. Congratulations to Women in Business & Regional Development for promoting a remarkable event at Bordertown Civic Centre Friday evening 21 September. The trump card of course was to hear ABC Foreign correspondent Sally Sara present us with a 'no holds barred' lecture on her last assignment in Afghanistan, complete with a power point presentation on the big screen and later a Q&A - like session with a roving rmicrophone moderated by Stan Thompson. Stan had earlier introduced Sally to the folk present. WiB&RD Members put on an excellent evening, perfectly planned, very well attended, including many visitors to our town. The Civic Centre is really a smart venue for such an event. Once again ladies, congratulations. Editor's Note - we wish Bob a speedy recovery after his very recent stroke

Tammy Whitehead, Jo Clark & Sally Sara - best

Tammy Whitehead, Jo Clark & Sally Sara

A major sponsor of Women in Business & Regional Development in 2012, Statewide Shearing Services (formerly Balmoral Shearing Services) was formed in 2004 when, Barry and Jo Clark, saw a gap in the shearing industry.
Barry and Jo saw an opportunity within the industry to start their own shearing contracting business based on the principles of being reliable and at all times delivering professional services. Before starting Statewide Shearing Services, Barry had been in the shearing industry for twenty-two years and had shorn Australia wide and also in New Zealand. Barry’s experience in the industry combined with Jo’s business skills has seen Statewide Shearing Services grow dramatically over the past eight years and the company now employs over 600 employees. Based in Lucindale, South Australia, with an office in the Western district of Victoria Statewide Shearing Services offers their professional services to South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. Editor's note: We thank you Jo for your support of Reflections of ...Sally Sara
