When I was in college, I was quick to jump into my Pathfinder with a sleeping bag and a backpack of clothes to take off on a weekend adventure. Whether I was following a visiting UK Indie band from San Diego to San Francisco to hear them live, a taking off on trip to the dessert to camp under the stars, or heading up to Big Sur to explore the beautiful shoreline. I was always up for the adventure.
I also used to SCUBA dive...a lot. Within 3 years I had banked over 200 dives....and a boyfriend turned husband turned best friend.
My adventures led me to an island in the Pacific Northwest, which I have called home for 17 years.
During my last year as a teacher here, I took 18 middle school students to Costa Rica and 7 weeks later I took 10 high school students to a research center in the Amazon, 12 hours up river from the closest airport.
...and then I had kids.
I dream of diving. I dream of road trips. I dream of tropical adventures and waking to a symphony of exotic bird calls as the sun rises. I dream in foreign languages.
First world problems, right? Or is it that simple? Traveling into the unknown triggers something in me that is in explicable.
Maybe that is why I started BonBon Break. Maybe it was my way to explore unknown territory while staying home and raising my kids, which is a gift, a sometimes difficult, silver-lined gift.
If you were given the opportunity to just head off somewhere, where would you go? Who would you take with you? Click here to share your response in the comments.
Me? I would head to the Seychelles with my husband, and then Costa Rica with him and the kids, and then on a sailboat through the Adriatic and then...
Dreaming of far off places,
