Welcome to Edition 26 of Fair News
We are now in the final stages of putting together the Program Guide for Fair@Square Festival 2013 and I have to say, I have never been as excited about the program as this year.
Fair@Square is a collaboration between individuals, enterprises, profit and not for profit that come together to create the program for the event and as a result, the event does not only offer something for everyone, it has a unique personality and dynamic.
Fair@Square is forever changing and evolving to reflect the amazing team of conscious and committed individuals that give their time to provide visitors with a learning and positive experience and to share a glimpse of how we can all contribute to a future that is fair and just for all.
Over the next few weeks we will be updating our website with the new program, however, I wanted to share some of the expected highlights.
Make sure you put the Fair@Square Festival in your calendar, don't forget to bring your friends along and spend a weekend not only marvelling at the activities, but also doing all your Christmas Shopping.
Ian Curley (The European)
Fair Kitchen 2013 - a highlight
30th November and 1st of December 2013
Food has the power bring people together, capture tradition, inspire creativity and create endless opportunities. Our focus for this year's Fair Kitchen program is about the various facets and power of food. Our resident chef Ian Curley of The European will demonstrate how creating nutritional and tasty dishes does not need to be an expensive affair.
Whilst Sam Newton (aka Smiley Sam from MKR) together with Elliot Costello (co-founder of YGAP and new social enterprise restaurant "Feast of Merit" share some of the recipes from Sam's new cook book "From one cook to another"
This year we are also joined by TV personality and popular gardener Vasili who will be cooking up a storm using seasonal produce.
To ensure our event has minimal impact on the environment we searched for the most sustainable and modern kitchen we could find and no other Kitchen manufacturer is more environmentally friendly than the Italian CucineLube, both in its production processes and in its products – zero CO2 emissions (thanks to a 27,000 sqm solar powerplant), 100% recycled wood, 100% water-based coating, zero solvent/chrome/lead/cadmium and the lowest formaldehyde emission (F4star). Cucine Lube plant 50 new trees for every kitchen they transport from Italy, which overcompensate the emissions related to the shipment.
Fair Stories
A new addition to the Fair@Square program is Fair Stories. Our producer, Linda Wall, has curated a collection of short films with big ideas about fair trade, community involvement and sustainable living. Bush medicine from the Western Desert in Central Australia; papermaking and bookbinding in Nepal; fashion from the Himalayas and sewing in Cambodia, are some of the stories being shown on the Big Screen at Federation Square throughout the Festival.
Fair Trade Bunting Flags
Fair@Square is a lot of fun for the kids
Looking for adventure? Join us in Passport to Fair Trade. With passport in hand, children will ‘travel the world’ visiting various stall holders to learn about Fair Trade and collect a souvenir and stamp along the way!
If building is more your thing, then come hang out at the Fair Play tent to create monster masterpieces out of rubbish. For the arts and crafts lovers, make magazine beads or calico bunting flags. There is something for everyone at the Fair Play tent. See you there.
