Let a little light in.

Oh October, what a dark little month you can be.

While I want to only think of fall in all its crisp air, cozy sweater, crunching leaves glory - it's just not so. It can get dark - so let's keep things as bright and cheery as we can, yes?

Let's think about gratitude and celebrating a wonderful meal with family and friends, and let's think about making a super cool costume together. Let's use the darkest days as an excuse to bring the most colour into our hearts and minds and making. It's time for sparkles, stickers, and lots of em.

Let's not underestimate the need for a good book or two; I'm over the moon about a few more sophisticated titles for the older kids coming our way, as well as some great resources to share with parents.

I'm working on a window to inspire some spooky crafting for you all so come say hello, stay and make a kit or read a story - before you know it, November will be here!

Bring on the neon paints,
Erin

New books to love + learn with

Get ready for a whole BUNCH of new books arriving daily at the shop, like this one from Dallas Clayton - it's all about love and it's a nice companion to "An Awesome Book of Thanks" - which I thought was a good choice for this time of year.

Customers have been asking for more 'resource' type materials and I'm happy to tell you that we have just restocked Jean Van't Hul's "The Artful Parent" as well as Mona Brookes' "Drawing With Children". I really love Van't Hul's no nonsense approach to bringing art into her home, and Brooke's more comprehensive method of developing drawing skills in both older children and adults. In store now.

Shop the neighbourhood! | Get to know our friends

If making isn't your thing for Halloween, why not visit WeeOnesReruns across the street? We found an amazing selection of second hand costumes at really great prices. As well, at Precious and Few next door, we spied the most adorable animal hats, perfect for costumes, and cozy enough to wear year round. Maybe you want to make your own beautiful candy sack or napkins for Thanksgiving with some fabric from Spool of Thread? Whatever you choose, this block has you covered for crafting this October. Don't miss the seasonal baking at Gluten Free Epicurean either! Their pies are NOT to be missed.
