PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

In accordance with RI State Law, the RI Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will hold a public hearing to address proposed minor weekend service reductions on the following routes:

32 East Providence/Wampanoag
73 Fairlawn/CCRI
80 Armistice Boulevard

The public hearing will be held at the East Providence Senior Center, 610 Waterman Avenue, East Providence on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 12PM-2PM and again from 6PM-8PM.

These service changes are being made due to low weekend ridership on Routes 32, 73 and 80. RIPTA is proposing making changes to Route 32 this Summer and on the 73 and 80 in the Fall. This is not reduction in overall service, these resources will be used to meet weekend demand in other parts of the state. For example, Route 13 and 17 are two routes that have expressed great demand for Sunday service.

If you are unable to attend the hearing but would like to provide RIPTA with comment, please email planning@ripta.com.

SERVICE UPDATES

RIPTA has been experiencing chronic morning overcrowding on Route 17 along Westminster Street and on Route 92 heading to Rhode Island College. In response to concerns from customers and drivers, two additional bus trips have been added: Route 17 now offers a 7:18AM Inbound from Olneyville Square to Kennedy Plaza. Route 92 now offers a 7:30AM to RI College.

The additional morning frequency should help passengers on these routes getting to work as well as high school and college students on their way to school. If your route is experiencing overcrowding, please contact Customer Service at 784-9500 X180 or customerrelations@ripta.com.

RIPTA IN THE COMMUNITY

Commuter Resource RI (CRRI) is excited to partner with the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission to expand our growing EcoPass Program. Major employers on the island will be targeted to encourage them to provide transit to their employees and inform them about CRRI programs. The goal is to get more commuters on RIPTA buses, RI commuter rail and into carpools to ease traffic congestion and pollution caused by single occupant vehicles. If you work in Newport, Middletown or Portsmouth and would like us to contact your employer about commuter programs please contact the CRRI program at commuter@ripta.com.
