1. Homeopathy in emergency medicine

800px-Clinicians in Intensive Care Unit

Homeopathy not only treats acute and chronic disease, it also has a lot to offer in emergencies; the correct remedy acts surprisingly quickly in life-threatening situations.

Unfortunately, most doctors in developed countries are unfamiliar with homeopathy for emergency medicine, so it is interesting to read the following paper where it was introduced into the emergency department and intensive care unit (ICU) of a busy hospital. The researchers discuss the problems and successes they experienced.

In two stories of patients admitted to ICU:

1. A woman with severe mushroom poisoning survived with homeopathic treatment while her companion, who had also been poisoned but wasn't given the homeopathic treatment, sadly died.
2. A woman whose severe haemorrhage was halted by homeopathy, and thrombocyte levels increased, followed by a full recovery.

They also discuss two ICU trials in which:

1. Patients came off their respirators more quickly and with fewer problems if treated with homeopathy, and
2. Patients with sepsis were more likely to survive if treated with homeopathy.

At the conclusion, the authors suggest ways homeopathy could be introduced into hospital critical care settings so all may benefit.

2. Homeopathy and exercise for better memory

BrainYoga6

We have found an amazingly simple exercise that improves your memory and ability to learn.

The My Homeopathy website has the news story video in which a teacher, doctor, neurobiologist, occupational therapist, and parent discuss how the exercise:

Sharpens intelligence in seniors, juniors, mums, dads and kids
Helps those with autism, Asperger’s syndrome, learning difficulties and behavioural problems
Stimulates neural pathways via acupressure points in the earlobes
Synchronises the right and left side of the brain to improve function and promote calmness
Is fast and simple to do – takes just 1 to 3 minutes a day
Benefits anyone of any age

This exercise appears to offer real help to those with learning difficulties, autism and Alzheimers disease. In fact, anyone whose memory is not as sharp as it should be could benefit.

Two reports are also available at this link – one with diagrams on how to do the exercise and the other on homeopathic remedies that improve memory.

3. Know Your Remedies – Chamomilla vulgaris (Cham)

Chamomillamatricaria zps06cc5d59

Chamomilla matricaria (Cham.) is a plant with small daisy-like flowers native to Europe and temperate Asia. It is now grown in most parts of the world. Chamomilla is used by hebalists and homeopaths as a gentle sleep aid and for digestive complaints. Its effect is homeopathic even when used in raw herbal form (when taken in excess it produces symptoms similar to those it treats). When used in homeopathic potencies Chamomilla treats a larger range of physical symptoms and mental-emotional symptoms arising from irritability and increased sensitivity to external stimuli than what is possible in herbal form.

COMMON USES
When the remedy matches the symptom profile, Chamomilla has the ability to treat conditions such as asthma, behavioural problems, colic, teething difficulties or toothache, diarrhoea, painful menses (periods), hot flushes, osteomyelitis, middle ear infections, and premenstrual syndrome.

4. What WHO has said about homeopathy

Flag of WHO zpsb0266c09

Did you know that at various times the WHO (World Health Organisation) has:

1. Called for closer incorporation of homeopathy into “western medical systems”
2. Stated that the “majority” of peer-reviewed scientific papers published over the past 40 years “have demonstrated that homeopathy is superior to placebo in placebo-controlled trials and is equivalent to conventional medicines in the treatment of illnesses, in both humans and animals.”
3. Said that, “Homeopathy seems well suited for use in rural areas where the infrastructure, equipment, and drugs needed for conventional medicine cannot be provided.”
4. Reported that Homeopathy is the second most used medical system internationally, with over $1 Billon in expenditures.

Hmmm ... able to be integrated? Better than placebo? Equivalent to conventional medicine? Able to treat both human and animal diseases? Adaptable to difficult conditions and environments? Extremely popular? Homeopathy is truly versatile!

6. Bad habits – get rid of them with homeopathy?

Childsuckingthumb zps50dfe36c

Habits, tics and twitches such as hair-twirling, thumb-sucking, nail-biting, nose picking, grimacing, drinking, smoking or drug dependency are often helped by homeopathy.

Dr Souter has an interesting article with practical steps on how to break bad habits and provides a list of some of the homeopathic remedies that are useful for dealing with them. Be aware, though, that these habits and behaviours are not simple acute problems, and best results come from seeing a qualified homeopath who will prescribe a remedy that matches your symptom totality.

8. Town planning by homeopathy?

Kothen-derelictbuildings zps50e8d7a0

What do you think of this quirky story? People claim that the redevelopment of a less-than-healthy area in the city of Kothen was stimulated in an abstract manner by the process of homeopathy.

Fourteen unattractive and unviable buildings were to be demolished - something that would further reduce the attractiveness of the street in which they were situated.

In a series of interventions that mimicked the homeopathic process of collecting the symptoms, matching and magnifying them by literally shining a light on them, the production of a “homeopathic aggravation” in those who lived nearby, and then the curative response of a partial demolition, upgrading of the existing buildings and facilities, and the building of a new one led to a face-lift for the street and renewed vigour for the residents – something that would not have happened without the initial intervention.

What do you think? As homeopathy is based on a natural law (Law of Similars), can this law and its effects also be exploited for positive outcomes in town planning?

9. Hear the Silence – Wakefield and the study

Clipboard02

Depending on where you live it is either Autism Awareness Day, Week or Month this April. To increase this awareness, a "lost" dramatisation of the Wakefield affair that first aired on British television in 2003 and then disappeared for nearly a decade has recently resurfaced on YouTube.

This high quality portrayal is movie length, so grab a cuppa and put your feet up as you watch what happened to Andrew Wakefield, the highly controversial study, and the children with autism. Then, for a more recent interview with Wakefield and Mercola in which he discusses the events of that time and what has happened since, click on the link in the description.
