September 2012 American Quilter Magazine

A big thank you to the folks at American Quilter magazine! I'm thrilled that my quilts made the cover of this month's [American Quilter](http://www.americanquilter.com/books_supplies/item_detail.php?id=2539) issue. As well as a lovely article about me, there is a pattern for my latest small quilt, Little House of Geese.

Vote for Hawks Aloft on Saturday!!

Tomorrow, Saturday, July 28 is the day!

The day to vote for Hawks Aloft in the Toyota 100 Cars for Good contest!

Our ferruginous hawk at right is proud to cast his vote for us!

As you know, in my non quilting life, I am Executive Director of Hawks Aloft, an Albuquerque organization that works to conserve indigenous wild birds and their habitats through conservation education, avian research, and cooperation with other bird oriented and wildlife organizations. We are a finalist in the Toyota 100 Cars for Good competition. The day to vote for us is SATURDAY!

We need this vehicle for an avian ambulance and to transport our educational birds. For more information on how we will use this vehicle, please watch our video on Facebook.

Click on this LINK to go to the Facebook page and vote. THANK YOU!!!

Momma Swainson's Hawk and Orphan

Here's an example of our work with birds. We have a Swainson's hawk who has been the best foster mother to orphaned baby chicks. Well, it was looking like there wouldn't be any orphans for Momma Hawk to raise this year -- and then we got a call from the Santa Fe Raptor Center. This little fellow had been in a vet clinic for two weeks being hand fed at a very vulnerable age, when it is most important for them to imprint on their species. It was a rocky start for both Momma and baby, but Momma is being a suitable role model for him now. It is hoped that the baby chick can be released into the wild when it is older.

Cheers !
Gail
