Public Hearing Press Release 2013-2

PUBLIC HEARINGS START TODAY, WEDNESDAY, MAY 29 IN BARRINGTON

RIPTA will hold public hearings on proposed service changes in all five Rhode Island counties on May 29th, May 30th, June 3rd, June 4th, June 5th, and June 6th. These proposed improvements in service statewide are a result of RIPTA’s ongoing Comprehensive Operational Analysis. These changes include proposed new routes and express services, scheduling improvements to better coordinate routes operating in the same corridor, modified route alignments, frequency changes to better match service with demand, and the discontinuation of certain routes and route segments. These service improvements were directly derived from customer feedback. For more details, including the public hearing schedule, click here.

AIR QUALITY ALERT SEASON IS HERE

With the onset of the warmer weather, we urge Rhode Islanders to be aware of the increased risk of ground-level ozone and fine particle pollution, and take precautions when smog levels are high. Air Quality forecasts are issued daily by RIDEM-Air Resources and can be found at http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/benviron/air/pm.htm or at http://www.epa.gov/region1/airquality/aqi-ri.html. Regional information can be found at http://airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=airnow.local_state&stateid=41&tab=0.

Poor air quality affects everyone, but some people are particularly sensitive to air pollutants, including children and adults. When Air Quality is predicted to be unhealthy, RIDEM and EPA will announce an air quality alerts.

On Air Quality Alert Days, FlexService and all fixed-route RIPTA buses and trolleys are FREE!

To protect your health, improve air quality and save money, leave your car at home and take the bus on Air Quality Alert Days. The ride’s on us!
