the center for advanced hindsight is rad.

I spent all fall working on a project for the Center for Advanced Hindsight at Duke University. I love these scientists for their irreverence & their gift of a deadline.

Branson, the high school where I teach, sent me to Durham for the opening of the exhibition in January. I am over the moon with joy because Dan Ariely decided to purchase the series for the center!

This series started out with a bunch of conversations about self-control I am ever so grateful to the people who offered me their insights--Danny Lee, Darcy McFarlane, Sue Porter, Kim Fahlen, Hamilton Boggs, Bailey Smith, Robert Maybin, Brian Schumacher, Kelly Pendergast, Allyse Heartwell, Jacob Hoffman-Andrews, Caroline Wampole, & Kendra Lockman.

carlson lagraine award for an academic pursuit

Last June I received an award from Branson to study art.

One of the many gifts of 2012 & 2013 has been the opportunity to be an art student again. I've taken many one-day workshops as well as on-going classes.

For the past two and a half months, I've taken classes with Caroline Wampole. With her, I've done still life paintings, old master copies, self-portraits and even copies of my own paintings.

It has been deeply meaningful for me to be an art student--to remember the anxieties, the desire for approval, the feeling of accomplishment when you finish something. I have another few months of classes and reflection. All I can say--it has been transformative for me both as an artist and, especially, as a teacher.

After every class or workshop, I take explicit notes about my experience in my sketchbook.

i believe we are all deeply meaningful and, at the very deepest level, all our secrets are the same.
