What is the CrossFit Games Open?

By now we are sure you have seen some folks either A) putting in extra time around the gym or B) freaking out all over Facebook about 14.1 and beyond. If you are still not really sure what all the fuss is about, well, allow us to introduce you to The Open. These weekly series of workout are intended to determine qualifiers who will advance to the Regional level — individual and team competitors. As the caliber of athletes worldwide increases, the chance to compete at the next level is all the more thrilling to obtain. Does Ragin CrossFit have what it takes to battle against the cream of the crop? We hope so! But it's called The Open — and it's open to everyone. Even that athlete who has no desire to become a Regional athlete. It's still a place for you to measure your progress. By having your scores validated by a certified judge, you are being held to a level of accountability in your workout — when you 'cheat', you really only cheat yourself, but no one likes dishonesty during The Open. We want to be known as a box full of hardworking, dedicated, honest athletes, so let's do our best to no rep ourselves when we know we are in the wrong. Learn the movement standards and if you are unsure, clarify with a trainer or judge in advance to set yourself up for the best results during The Open. Good luck to all participating and if you're along for the ride for fun, enjoy it and keep on going!

Gym will be closed Tuesday, March 4

Member of the Month:

Jackie Foret

Jackie has been CrossFitting for about three years after starting by training with a friend in her garage. She's been a member of Ragin CrossFit for a little over a year and is also 8 months pregnant. Way to go, Jackie! Keep up the good work and we are proud of your accomplishments. Here's a little about Jackie's experience:

As I continue through this pregnancy, I plan to Crossfit until my doctor tells me “no more”!! I can’t wait to see how my body will transform after I have this beautiful baby girl. This place gives me so much to look forward to, and I can’t wait to work with the trainers when I get back, so I can see what my full potential can be

By measuring out dry ingredients in advance, you'll save time and not have to worry if you remembered all the ingredients while still half asleep. This recipe is chocked-full of nutrients including fat, protein and carbs. Try it yourself!

1 cup frozen mixed berries
2 cups fresh spinach
1 whole small avocado
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
A scoop of chocolate protein powder

Add all ingredients in a high-power blender and mix together until smooth. Add ice or water if desired while blending. You will hardly notice the veggies in this super tasty breakfast treat!
