First, let me give a short introduction about the two of us involved in this project.
I'm Adrien, a 26yo Frenchman living in Australia, and looking to move to Japan in a few months time. My role in this project includes project management, system administration, continuous integration, backend coding, and marketing. I first found out about Bitcoin 2 years ago when I tried to get into mining but realized it wasn't profitable, and forgot about it until I bought my first one in December 2013. |

The other member of our team is Vladimir, a 24yo Russian guy living in Chile, and he'll be moving to Thailand over the next couple of months as well. He is responsible for the design, quality analysis, backend and frontend coding for the platform. He has also been a cryptocurrency enthusiast.
We both work at Aquasys, and have more than 1 year of great experience working together. We're really excited about this project, and want to let you know what's going on behind the scenes right now. We have lots of features coming up, and we hope you're as excited as we are! |
We own more than one cryptocurrency, and like you, we've been trying to calculate and manage our crypto portfolio with Excel spreadsheets. However, as the number of coins we own increased, it became increasingly difficult to track all the different coins available. And that's why we are building CoinsManager, to create a better way to manage your cryptocurrency portfolio with no hassle at all! |
Project
So what exactly is this project about ?
▪ A multi-address, multi-currency portfolio (this is not a wallet, we do not store private keys. Maybe in the future as a new feature). You'll only need one place to find them all with annotations (metadata).
▪ Know your assets, no more calculation! We listen to the blockchain explorer, to retrieve the number of coins each of your addresses possess, then we calculate their value in your favorite fiat currency. You only need to add your public addresses.
▪ A lot more to come! We want to start with minimal functionality, but do the job right. Many ideas are in store for future improvements (build our own blockchain explorers, add gamification and social components, build tools for appreciating the popularity and relevancy of new coins, etc). How does it work ?
1. You signup with your email/password, or through Facebook/G+/Twitter
2. First, you add the public addresses of each different cryptocurrency you own, and that's it!
3. Your portfolio is then tracked and continually updated automatically with those existing addresses. You'll be able to see the coin's name, address, number of coins in that address, as well as its value in USD or BTC.
4. You can then specify your favorite fiat currency, your favorite exchanges (default all), and add more addresses!
5. If your coin hasn't been implemented yet, then the form will be extended, asking you for the coin code, as well as optional fields (coin name, nb of coins for that address, asset value)

Deadlines
We're going Lean. That means many deployments every time a small feature/fix is added.
▪ We will first release an alpha version. It will not be fully fuctional, and no data will be preserved for future phases.
▪ Next, we will release the beta version which will be more functional, and where all data will be saved and migrated to future phases. We will take this beta phase to fix any major existing issues before moving on.
▪ Next will follow the Minimum viable product (MVP), which we will aim to make perfectly bug-free.
▪ After the MVP, we plan on raising funds on the crowd-funding platform Indiegogo. These extra resources will help us with our goal of expanding our team, so that we can add more features at a faster pace.

Ok, so you're very interested by the project, want to help out, but have no web development skills at all ? No worries, you can still help a lot:
▪ Vote & comment on the Trello board! This will help us prioritize our tasks
▪ Spread the word about CoinsManager to those around you!
▪ Contribute to the code (excellent learning experience for you as well).
▪ Make a donation to one of our addresses. Coins will be integrated by order of donations received (or by a contributor: we're making it very easy to integrate!)

For the socialites
I've spent a long time introducing the project on many different forums, and I have to stop. This takes too much of my time, and the backend code isn't progressing fast enough. Therefore I'm calling for you, our ambassadors, to talk about the project on your favorite social networks, forums, channels, etc.
Please help to spread awareness about CoinsManager and invite more people to sign up with our newsletter, so that we'll be able to run a successful alpha testing campaign. We want to introduce A/B testing as soon as possible to get a lot more feedback from you. But we'll need at least a thousand users for it to be accurate. So be creative, and let's start a movement! :)
Below are some suggestions of what you could do to help:
▪ If you have a blog, blog about us! We will notice it if maybe users are redirected from your blog, and we'll thank you for it.
▪ If you are fluent in other languages, translate the pamphlet or the newsletter and show it around!
▪ You can request your favorite coin founder for a donation (we already got support from NobleCoin and CinnamonCoin).
▪ If you're a miner, can you talk to the biggest miners of your pool, see if they might be interested and make a donation ?
▪ Contact a startup incubator like BitAngels or Coinseed, to see if they would be interested in sponsoring this not-for-profit project ?

For the developers
We are Python developers (worked a lot on Django and OpenERP projects). Because we come from the Python world, we love significant whitespace. This is why we decided on a set of technologies that follow the same pythonic style:
▪ SASS -> convert to css
▪ Jade -> convert to html
▪ Coffeescript -> convert to js
On top of this, we decided to start learning a bleeding-edge framework called Meteor, embracing the concept of reactive programming (one-page website, you never need to reload the page, it updates itself automatically when records are updated on the server. Meteor is the next Django/Rails, with great ease of use and high user side benefits.
We have issues with the tests! We need your help to figure out what's going on, and restart doing proper Test Driven Development.
We'll work toward being the best tested and most beautiful Meteor project, lot of fun ahead :) |
