Get Real Coaching - Life Coaching

It's been a big year and most of us have successfully pushed through 2012 to recover from the worst of the GFC. Most of us, too, are mentally exhausted and have truly earned our break in May.

A common request I receive from clients is 'how to lessen stress by getting a better a work:life balance. Now just between you and me, I'm a bit sceptical about the concept of work:life balance especially the way it's promoted by the academics. For starters, just the phrase work:life balance implies that 'work' and 'life' are 2 different things and even mutually exclusive. Then we're told that an out-of-kilter life is linked to inflexible work arrangements, poor time management, unreasonable work loads and demanding business expectations. These factors may well contribute to poor morale and workplace stress but in my experience there are more fundamental ones. These more fundamental factors are well within the control of each of us and can be overlooked in the effort to blame someone else for our burn-out and anxiety.
