See You in NYC and NJ!

NYC - Tue, June 4

Our first NYC event will be a small party on the Upper East Side. Come for some organic and gluten-free fare and a lively conversation about parenting, wellness, and medicine, with:

Kelly Brogan, MD
Mary Coyle, DI Hom
Louise Kuo Habakus, MA
Alison MacNeil, LICSW
Jennifer Margulis, PhD
Larry Palevsky, MD

The reception is from 6-7pm, and the panel discussion from 7-9:30pm. Seating is limited and we only have 15 spots left, so please register ASAP if you'd like to join us. Once we've reached full capacity, we will make a note on the website and take down the registration form. If this link doesn't work, go to the website and click on the NYC event button. We'll send you the address after you register.

We're especially grateful to Mary Coyle, Katie Wright, Beth Worton, and the Well Amy team (Amy Brown and Lisa Rudley) for their generosity.

Summit, NJ - Wed, June 5

NP's Summit organizing team of powerhouse local advocates has pulled out the stops for what will be an amazing event at St. Teresa of Avila's Memorial Hall. We've partnered with nearly three dozen sponsors to create a fun evening with healthy refreshments, book signings, goodie bags (swag!), a raffle, and a heart-centered roster of nationally-acclaimed speakers who write, speak, and advocate for healthy children, informed parents, happy families, and proactive wellness:

Alisa Bowman
Louise Kuo Habakus, MA
Maggie Kozel, MD
Alison MacNeil, LICSW
Jennifer Margulis, PhD

Friends of Nurture Parenting have underwritten this event so admission is free. Click HERE for more information. Please register by emailing us your name to reserve your space. This will help us to prepare, so we can set out enough chairs for you and your friends.

We will acknowledge all our sponsors at the event, and on our website. A very special thank you to wellness champions and local mavens: Stacy Allan, Patty Avelino, Elizabeth Hathway, Sandra Holbrook, Jason Pucci, and Valeri Sewald.

Little Silver, NJ - Fri, June 7

We close out the week with an intimate conversation about pregnancy, birth, improving health outcomes, and empowering women to meet the challenges of motherhood, with:

Louise Kuo Habakus, MA
Lisa Lederer, CNM of the Midwives of NJ
Jennifer Margulis, PhD
Jill Wodnik, MA, LCCE, a national doula trainer

The event is supported by important friends and resources in the community. We'll be gathering at The Nest, a nurturing place where women and children learn and thrive. Casi Leahy, The Lactation Lady, her Bosom Buddies breastfeeding support group, and the local HealthFair Natural and Organic Foods Market are providing refreshments. Melanie Dragone and Beth Salerno, CPD of Jersey Shore Dar a Luz are helping to coordinate goodie bags! And Cornelia Mazzan, birth doula, childbirth educator, and co-leader of the Monmouth County East chapter of the Holistic Moms Network, has generously contributed her many talents, from graphic design to marketing outreach.

Seating is limited and advance registration is strongly recommended. Use this link or go to the website and click on the Little Silver event button.

Please note that all NP events have free admission. In some cases, we propose a suggested donation amount. The donation is appreciated, but don't let that be a reason you don't attend!

How You Can Get Involved!

Many of you are asking how you can involved. Here are some ideas:

Help us publicize the events.
Download the flyers (click on the event button and scroll down for the links) and post a few in high traffic areas. Post them on Facebook. Email or PM your friends.
Contact your favorite stores.
Tell them about Nurture Parenting, and ask them if they'd be interested in sponsoring us.
Invite us to your town.
We're already planning our Fall schedule, so it's never too early to save the date!
Connect us to your experts.
Do you have a favorite author or activist who should join us? Share the people who are really passionate about parenting and wellness!
Donate a special skill.
Maybe you create amazing programming for conferences, retreats, and spas. Are you a great fundraiser or event planner? Do you blog or light up the social media scene? Perhaps you design bumper stickers or t-shirts. Let us know what you love to do... we could be a perfect match.

Thank you for offering your support!!!

Last Week in Chicago

at the Autism One Conference!

On May 24, Louise, Alison, and Jennifer spoke about the unexpected power we have, when we own our experiences, share our stories, and build community.

AO2013Alison

We followed the rules.
It broke our kids.
We're creating new rules.

AO2013Jen

We're studying the science.
The system is broken.

We know what we know.
We're moving forward.
Together.

The power of "no thank you."

We were moved by Bobby Kennedy's impassioned plea at Autism One on behalf of our nation's children. In gratitude to the many pioneers who inspire us, we close with a quote from his father, Robert F. Kennedy:

“Few are willing to brave the disapproval of their peers, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change.”

Love,
Louise, Jennifer, Alison, and Christine
