The very first Lightness Tournament in Arizona is coming soon and we are sure it will become a successful annual event in this beautiful Grand Canyon state.

Please join us in supporting your Arizona Lightness Tournament, honoring the lost art of classical dressage and the way of riding in lightness and harmony.

How to support your Arizona Lightness Tournament?

There are many ways to support the tournament. Give a donation to the Lightness Foundation for example or sponsor a class at the tournament in the name of your business, stallion, barn or simply your name. You can also be a part of the team of volunteers for the weekend of the tournament, working to make sure this event will be a success. Finally, you can support by just being present during this fun and exciting event.

Everyone can and will make a difference. Let's do as the people of Colorado did this summer and make the Lightness Tournament a huge success!!

WHAT IS A LIGHTNESS TOURNAMENT?

▪ A series of tests specifically designed for the horse and rider team to develop, improve and showcase their progress in riding in lightness
▪ Demonstration of the classical principles of riding through artistic equitation.
▪ Focuses on the partnership between the rider and the horse and not on winning. You ride for your horse and not for a score.
▪ Promotes teamwork and demonstrates a true partnership between horse and rider
▪ EXCITING, FUN AND CHALLENGING!

EVALUATING LIGHTNESS

▪ Balance and Lightness of the horse
▪ Discrete use of the rider's aids
▪ Self-carriage
▪ Separation of the hand, leg and seat aids
▪ Impulsion and regularity of the gaits
▪ Submission and enjoyment of the horse

THE LIGHTNESS TESTS

▪ 5 levels under saddle
▪ 3 levels with long reins and in hand
▪ Free styles

SCORING

▪ Performance of the required movements - 2/5
▪ Demonstration of the six elements of Lightness - 2/5
▪ Artistry of the performance - 1/5
Riders will not be given scores but will receive individual comments from the judge Riders will be given the opportunity to ride a test twice in the same tournament
