This World Health Day (7 April) focused on high blood pressure. The HelpAge network carried out a global survey that revealed a lack of information, screening services and available medication for older people, particularly in rural areas. See the full results here.

Violence against women not only affects girls and women of reproductive age – but continues into older age, says the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in its Agreed Conclusions from its 57th session.
The research, produced with the Myanmar Government with support from the UN Population Fund, fills a knowledge gap needed to develop health, care and social protection policies for the country’s rapidly ageing population.

Register at the ODI website. ▪ The Centre for Research on Ageing at the University of Southampton in the UK is offering 15 scholarships for students from Commonwealth countries for the MSc Gerontology (Distance Learning) programme in 2013-14. Applications are due by 17 May.
