A Quick Update from the Park Slope Street Safety Partnership

We've got a date, time and location for our next event – read on for the details, and join us! And if you haven't yet taken the three critical actions outlined below, please take a moment to do so today.

Join us for a Vision Zero Town Hall Meeting, Monday, April 21

On Monday, April 21, at 6:00 p.m., we're co-hosting a Vision Zero Town Hall Meeting with Councilmember Brad Lander right here in Park Slope.

Representatives from the Department of Transportation, NYPD, Taxi & Limousine Commission and Mayor's Community Assistance Unit will be on hand to provide an update on the city's Vision Zero Action Plan, and you'll have the opportunity to give feedback, raise any concerns you might have, and help identify dangerous locations and potential solutions.

The Vision Zero Town Hall Meeting will take place at P.S. 321, at 180 7th Avenue, between 1st and 2nd Streets. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m., and the program will begin promptly at 6:30. Please join us for this important event, and help spread the word to neighbors and friends.

Two More Important Actions for Safer Streets

Sign a petition for a citywide 20 mph speed limit

Our friends at Transportation Alternatives recently launched a campaign asking the State Legislature to lower the default citywide speed limit from 30 mph to 20 (city officials would be able to set a higher speed limit where appropriate). You can do your part by asking your Assemblymember and State Senator to help pass 20-mph legislation that's already been introduced in Albany. Just click here, complete the form (you can customize your message if you desire), and press send. Taking this critical action will take you less than a minute, and it will make a big difference in the fight to save lives on New York City streets.

Join us in Albany on May 6th!

On Tuesday, May 6th, we're heading to Albany with Transportation Alternatives and Families for Safe Streets to lobby for a 20 mph speed limit. We’ll be getting on buses in Brooklyn at 6 a.m. and heading north to meet with state elected officials to ask them to lower New York City’s speed limit to 20 mph.

We know it's asking a lot to get up at dawn and take a day off from work, but that's just how important this trip is. If it takes a caravan of buses full of New York City residents to convince Albany that our speed limits should be decided by New York City residents, then that's what we have to do. Click here for more information about the May 6th safe-streets lobbying trip, and to reserve your spot today. Don't miss the bus!

Get Your Own "20 is Plenty" Sign

20isPlenty

We still have a handful of 20 is Plenty signs, courtesy of our friends at Right of Way. They're made of 18" x 24" lightweight corrugated plastic, and make for great window displays for demonstrating your support for taking it slow on neighborhood streets. The signs are just $5 (to cover production costs). Send us an email at ParkSlopeStreetSafety@gmail.com to reserve yours today.
