Message from Susy

Last year the enterprises that entered the Ethical Enterprise Award really inspired us. We weren't prepared for the diversity of entries and diversity of social outcomes they each delivered. There is something really special about being a business that has a purposes beyond just itself.
The questions I get often asked is whether this new type of business model is just a trend, something of the 21st century.

I don't think it is just a trend, whilst we owe it to the trailblazers that have carved the path for others, we are now witnessing the beginning of the business of the future. The social purpose of why business exist is as important as all the other business outcomes.
We are truly living in exciting times, to be witnessing the change in business paradigm and in the change of consumer attitudes, will provide the opportunity for new business models, innovation and meaningful collaborations.

Do you know the environmental impact of your building?

B Stilla - South Yarra 7

Well now you can and Moral Fairground supporters are getting a 5% discount.
Life-Cycle Assessments for built environments is a cradle-to-grave approach for assessing the environmental impacts of business activities on a large scale. The LCA software created by eTool allows architects, designers and builders to see the full impact of the designed building to be. It can even run parallel scenarios of the building to see the payback time of installing or using a different material/item such as solar hot water as compared to electric hot water, all while simultaneously displaying the decrease in environmental impact of the overall building.

The Battle to Save the Orangutans – One Woman’s Journey to Create Change

Most of us are unknowingly contributing to one of the world’s biggest environmental threats of modern times, simply through the products we eat and use in our every day lives.
Up to 300 football fields an hour of some of the richest and most bio diverse rainforest in Indonesia and Malaysia are being cleared, threatening over 300,000 vital species including our closest living relative, the orangutan, which faces extinction in the wild within the next decade if we don’t take action now.
Joining the fight to raise awareness of the need for urgent action and raise funds for on-ground conservation projects is Ambassador for The Orangutan Project and Founder of Ecochick.com, Melbourne-based environmental campaigner, Lara Shannon.
In a bid to help raise awareness of the threats facing the orangutans and funds for leading conservation group, The Orangutan Project, Lara will journey 900kms across Borneo over 24 days in the Trans Borneo Challenge and hopes to raise funds through to film a documentary of the journey. Visit EcoChick and stay tuned.

Buying for good

all-good-fairtrade-poster copy

All Good named the world’s ‘fairest trader’
All Good has been recognised as the world’s ‘fairest trader’.
Two years ago we had a crazy dream to offer consumers a fizzy drink that acknowledged and supported the people who originally discovered the name ingredient in the most consumed soft drink in the world – cola. Support from organisations like yours made this possible and Karma Cola was born.
Today our efforts were recognised. Fairtrade International, a global not-for-profit organisation that oversees 27,000 products that carry the Fairtrade mark in 120 countries, has awarded All Good the international Fairtrade Trader award.
The award was announced at the International Fairtrade Awards, which took place as part of Fairtrade International General Assembly in Bonn, Germany on June 12, 2014. The Fairtrade Trader award recognises outstanding and special efforts from traders worldwide, especially those involved in innovative projects and programmes.
