Putting life into perspective ..once again

moving packing

how much do we horde? all this will be waiting for us in the Akhirah

The other day my son turned one. With glee and excitement it was now time to move him on to whole milk - the real stuff! In excitement I filled his bottle and the little guy got hooked on the stuff.

When getting ready to go out with his father, I reminded his father that our son now drank proper milk to which his father replied, ‘well what are we going to do with all the other milk we have?'

I had always been someone who stocked up heavy as if we were on the verge of a nuclear war and baby milk was no different. However, now that my little guy was off the powder what was I to do with it all?

In fact a year had gone by, and as the boy grew to the wonder of us all, so did the little suitcase of things that no longer fit him. I kept them in the suitcase for the hope of one day when I’m old and grey, and my boy a grown man I could reminisce as they did in the movies. Or maybe I was keeping them in storage to recycle for the pitter-patter feet of baby number two?

Either way, something didn’t feel right.

After restless nights of thinking about that suitcase sitting in my spare room it finally dawned on me.. that feeling of guilt, that turning of my stomach was my fitrah telling me something just wasn’t right. Here I was thinking about saving a buck or two clothing my unborn child number two when thousands of Syrian children, just like my little boy snuggled next to me, were freezing to death. A shudder ran down my back as the thought dawned on me at how unintentionally selfish I had been. Those children were my children, those children - each one - are my daughter or my son. My heart sunk, ashamed as I reminded myself of the hadeeth I had heard more than a thousand times

Nu'man b. Bashir reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The believers are like one person; if his head aches, the whole body aches with fever and sleeplessness.

Warmth is a luxury we take for granted

Someone else will do it

My story and my shame is to highlight how easy it is for us to think someone else will help, someone else will donate, someone else will do our job, However someone else cannot take away the shame of it not being YOU who did it.

Al Fitrah will be holding a collection of clothes at our office for the next two weekends.

Items needed are;
Blankets
Sleeping Bags
Non perishable food or tinned food
Medicine (paracetamol / calpol etc)
Baby clothes
Jumpers
Nappies and baby milk.

We have been advised not to collect general clothing because people have been donating horrendous dirty and unwearable things which takes many voluntary hours to sift through for the containers. One sister told me ‘ If you were to see some of the things donated then you will know it will be our own ummah that will strip the Syrians of any dignity left”.

why not add an additional few items on your shopping list to send to Syria.

Please do not think you do not have time to sort through your things, give whatever you can now,or even if you don't have some things on the list a sleeping bag can cost just £7 or a packet of parcetamol is just 21p.

So why not shop for Syria instead of the sales?.

However DONT DELAY, because your delay means another person is suffering. We would not delay if it was our family so we owe the same sincerity to our ummah.

Drop off date is:
