Dear

As always, there's lots going on at the Child of Hope school – if you haven't seen all our news on social media or our website, here's a round-up! Click on any of the pics to see more photos and read more information on our website.

Giving thanks for lunch... Child of Hope-style!

In this short video, our school children enthusiastically pray, sing, dance and play every day before school and again before lunch. They are thanking God for food, for their achievements and opportunities. If school dinner were your only real meal of the day, you might even be tempted to sing and dance a bit too!
Love the little guy on the drum!
It was shot by Giulia Bergamin, a volunteer from the National Assembly in Wales, currently working alongside our Ugandan team for a couple of months.
If you'd like to view it larger on YouTube, click here. You can donate to our school meals or even sponsor them monthly!

Promotion for Pius

We have some awesome people on our Ugandan staff – this is Pius (28), who has just been promoted to welfare manager. Philip Lotimong (who previously held the position) moves to a three-days-a-week position as community welfare officer.
Pius also runs our children’s home and is very committed to CoH.

Looking so smart!

Our uniforms and shoes have arrived... reports Juliet, deputy head of Primary School.
"Wow! This is wonderful news because our children have received their new uniforms and shoes. They are all given out freely, no child pays for them. Some children walked to school without shoes and others had torn and short uniforms, so they didn't feel comfortable coming to school like that. This is a big step forward towards their health and hygiene especially because they were going to the latrines to ease themselves without shoes.
"Now see how happy and excited they are because of their new uniforms and shoes. More..."

Standing alone in social welfare

We’re very proud of our social welfare support system – by all accounts it may be the only one in Uganda!
You see, there are no social services in Uganda whatsoever – especially no welfare support system to ensure that the poorest children are able to get the most out of their education. So, if there are significant problems at home (e.g. a lone parent is critically ill, or the family is kicked out of their rented hut, or the child is suffering abuse/neglect at home, etc) then clearly that child is not going to be able to concentrate on their studies.
Child of Hope’s answer to this is ground-breaking... more

News round-up

Digging his way back up: Bex met this fascinating guy on the roof of our school, shovelling cement despite his disability of losing a leg. He is Moses, one of the builders working on the construction of our third level. More...

Education: shocking global statistics: An article shows the true, terrible state of education on offer to children around the world... more

Where shall we put these 50 new kids?: With another 50 young pupils aged four or five about to join the school in February, and all the current classrooms full... we decided to build another temporary classroom... more

And finally... thanks! A huge 'thank you' to the companies which have donated IT equipment for our amazing school IT suite. It stands head and shoulders above most schools in Uganda... and ours are the poorest, most vulnerable kids in the country who previously would never had the chance to access quality computer equipment... fantastic!
