Annual Fall Photo Contest

The Annual Fall Photo Contest will be held during our monthly meeting on Monday, October 14th at the Montgomery County South Regional Library beginning at 6:30pm. Entries will be accepted at the same location on Saturday, October 12th between 10:00am and 12:00pm. The judges results will be announced during our regular meeting time Monday, October 14th at the library. All photos must be picked up after the meeting. First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention will be awarded in each category. There will also be a " Best of Show" and "Members Choice" award. There will not be a members slide show this month.

2013 & 2014 Board Member Positions

The following positions are either currently open or will be open effective January 1st. Duties of the board consist of attending monthly club meetings and board meetings (the last Wednesday of each month) as well as the specific duties outlined below.

This is your club and it takes more than a few people to make it run smoothly; please consider volunteering a few hours each month.

Secretary: Will keep up with board meeting notes. Make reservations for club meetings, workshops, fall contest and any other meeting that is scheduled for the club. This position is also responsible for maintaining and providing the name badges at the club meetings.

Public Relations (Beginning January 1) Responsible for incoming inquiries from the public and members.

Workshop Coordinator Responsible for researching, planning & coordinating club workshops.

Old Town Spring Halloween Photo Shoot

Date: October 27th, 2013
Time: 5:00pm
Place: Old Town Spring

We are to meet on Gentry Street by the restrooms and start from there photographing the town and decorations.

We are also looking for good ideas for future field trips, workshops and volunteers to lead field trips.

Lightroom Workshop with JT Thomas

Date:Saturday November 2nd, 2013
Location: Woodlands South Library (Next to the Community Center)
Time: 10am -200pm
Cost: Free (20 Max)

For this workshop we will start with how to develop a workflow in Lightroom that fits your needs. This includes organizing your photos on your computer, naming your photos, adding Keywords, Titles and Comments, as well as adding GPS info.

We will then move to the Develop Module to process your pictures, select your best photos, and make ordinary photos look great, and great photos look outstanding. This exercise shows how to get the most out of the pictures coming out of your camera.

We will then touch on the other modules in Lightroom as time permits

If you would like to follow along, please bring a laptop loaded with Lightroom and a flash drive or SD card for loading sample photos into your version of Lightroom. If you don't currently have Lightroom you can download a free version from the Adobe website. If you do this, download the copy the week before the workshop so you will have plenty of time to play with it before the trial period expires. Please charge up your laptop or have an extension ready.

Lunch: Bring your lunch or bring cash for lunch. We can order in for those that don't want to brown bag it..

FALL CONTEST CATEGORIES

The categories for the fall photo contest are as follows:

All members may submit two photos per category with the exception of the New Member category which is only open to members who joined during 2012 and 2013. All pictures must be mounted, matted and framed (maximum frame outside total dimension 18x22 inches), in each category. There will also be a "Best of Show" and "Members Choice" award. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact a board member.
Minor adjustments such as contrast/brightness, removing dust and scratches, burning/dodging, and cropping are allowed. all other images alterations must be entered in the "Open category" or any category where a special technique is required.

Have you been someplace interesting or just gotten some great shots? Each month a portion of the meeting will be devoted to seeing and talking about the creative experiences of our membership. Please share your shots with members by participating in members slide show. Submit your photos (limit 4) to Blake by the Friday prior to the monthly meetings. There will not be a slide show this month due to the Annual Fall Photo Contest.

Ride Along (Non club photo opportunity)

If you are interested in riding along with the Montgomery County Emergency Medical Technicians in their ambulances for a unique photo opportunity, please contact
Marlisa Briggs at mbriggs@mchd-tx.org. They will be requesting copies of your photos to use in their promotional materials and website.
