Dear St. Andrew's Families,

It was so much fun to have over 100 grandparents on campus this past weekend. The kids were so excited to show them around, take them to classes, and just sit and talk during what turned out to be a spectacular weekend. We were especially thankful to have Rev. Neely Towe (above) provide the homily during Sunday's service.

Saturday's Memorial Service for longtime CFO and Director of Institutional Planning Mike Schuller P'01,'12 brought together friends, alumni, family, former faculty members, staff, and students to pay tribute to a man who worked tirelessly — even through years of cancer treatment — to help create so much of the School we all benefit from today.

We did enjoy a Spring Fling Free Day on Wednesday, which served to recharge the students as they head into Arts Weekend. Tad delivered the news on Wednesday morning standing on the Front Lawn next to speakers blaring U2's "It's a Beautiful Day."

All the best,
Will Robinson '97

In the Classroom — Senior Tutorials

Eric Kemer holds his spring tutorial, “Not Knowing What You’re Thinking While You Are Thinking,” in the Gahagan Room on Thursday afternoon. The class focuses on the last twenty years of cognitive science research that has revolutionized our understanding of the adaptive unconscious — the thinking our brains carry out beneath the level of our awareness. The group is reading Strangers to Ourselves: Discovering the Adaptive Unconscious by Professor Timothy Wilson and then will select specific topics of personal interest to review in greater depth using journal articles and audio lectures.

Students Examine On Campus Energy Use, Proposals for Savings

Director of Sustainability Diana Burk and Environmental Steward Alexandra Porrazzo '13 began a discussion this week with students about air conditioning and heating temperature set points in School buildings. Students have the opportunity this week to weigh-in on proposals to save energy by lowering and raising the set points during certain seasons. An online poll is now available for students to voice opinions in addition to a Headmaster's Forum scheduled for next week.

The discussion is part of an ongoing effort to educate students around sustainability issues in their daily lives.

Jam-Packed Weekend

In addition to games, The Rubber Chickens, and a Saturday night dance on the Front Lawn, students have some great options to get off-campus this weekend.
