A summer group exhibition opening June 5th and on view through August 20th will be comprised solely of works submitted through an open call. RH Gallery’s first open call seeks artworks which demonstrate an innovative approach to conceptual art-making wherein the process and materials are integral to the meaning of the work. We are looking for works that are characterized by one or all of the following descriptors: obsessive, radical, challenging and thought-provoking. The work should reflect a dedication to uncovering and accessing contemporary culture via specific avenues of inquiry.

Myla Dalbesio. The Valley International, 2013 (detail).

RH Gallery is presenting performances by Myla Dalbesio, Jaeeun Lee and Ursula Scherrer at Cutlog. Myla Dalbesio's Getting Lifted: Exploring the Healing Relationship is an element of the artist’s cult-like “family” Valley International which explores transcendence, devotion and multiple planes of reality. This interactive performance piece invites participants to engage in a momentarily meaningful relationship through the therapeutic properties of caring yet benign physical contact. Wordlessly introducing a layer of trust within an intimate environment, Dalbesio paves a path to transcendence.

Rona Pondick. Dwarfed Pine, 2010 (installation).

We will be hosting a panel discussion on May 18th, 5-7pm, with Soledad Arias, April Gornik, John O’Reilly and Rona Pondick in conversation with Rebecca Heidenberg to celebrate of our exhibition A Discourse on Plants. This will be Rona Pondick’s first public appearance in many years. Presenting depictions ranging from the cultivated and domestic to what Werner Herzog memorably described as “the harmony of overwhelming and collective murder”, the exhibition demonstrates the ways in which plants function as markers, metaphors and subjects of an anthropocentric world. Check out this interview with John O'Reilly on Artspace about his work in the show.
