Just received this photo from one of our log home owners who built a modified Caroline. They did not want the prow in the living room, so we flattened off that wall. They also added a wrap around porch. According to the homeowners, they said they love their home so much they never want to leave!

Here is another view of the same home. They also added a fireplace in the front wall of the living room and made the original windows smaller. These types of changes are very easy to do to any of our standard designs. Of course, we can design a home for you from scratch also!

Trivia Question: In what city and on what date was Independence Day first celebrated ? (See the answer below.)

Construction Management Services now offered by GLH! We are now offering to manage the construction of your home in some parts of the US. Call for more information!

What kind of corners can be used with log siding? It is easy to pick out a log sided home from a “real” log home if it does not have full log corners. This means logs that extend from the corners of the home replicating a log home. Our Therma-Log half log siding can be produced with full log corners so that it looks just like a full log home. We recently installed this siding over a modular home that had been put up on KY Lake. (See photo below) The modular was a story and a half home with a prow. We cut the corners to match the angle of the prow. If this is not important to you, the corners can be trimmed in several ways. The least expensive way is with vertical 2 X trim boards on the corners. All of these corner styles can be used on dormers and garages as well.

This modular home utilized Therma Log siding with full log corners. From the exterior of the home, you cannot tell it is not a full log house.

What is a log “profile?”: This is one of the “buzz words” that you might hear when talking to someone about a log home. There are two profiles: what you see on the outside and what you see on the inside. The can be the same or they can be different. For example, if the logs are round on the outside that is a “round exterior profile.” If they are flat on the interior with bevels at the top and bottom, that is a “flat beveled interior profile.” A “D” profile is a word you will also hear. That means the log is round on the outside and flat on the inside.

Answer to the Trivia Question: Independence Day was first celebrated in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776. The Liberty Bell sounded from the tower of Independence Hall on July 8, 1776, summoning citizens to gather for the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence by Colonel John Nixon.
