It is a great honor that we have been asked to perform at the Montgomery County Executive's Awards ceremony. This event is currently sold out, though to be placed on the waiting list, visit creativemoco.com. See the Company perform our work Benchmarks, combining physically demanding and powerful movements with the use of six full length benches to present a metaphor for the building of relationships. Benchmarks was originally commissioned by BlackRock Center for the Arts as a site-specific work and is being re-choreographed for this event's proscenium stage. ClancyWorks greatly appreciates BlackRock's generosity in allowing us to use their lobby benches for the performance. See more about the work here: www.clancyworks.org

Behind the Curtain - Jason

Our vibrant Company dancer, Jason Fowler, joined us in August from Dallas. We are so excited to have his positive attitude and dynamic energy! We hope that you get to know Jason just a bit more by reading this interview.

How did you find ClancyWorks?
While I was in high school in Texas, Adrienne Clancy taught a master class and performed with a company member. The athleticism and partnering in both class and performance still resonate with me today. This past summer, I connected with Adrienne through the faculty at TCU.

Where did you train as a dancer?
I started dancing in my living room and kitchen just copying music videos. I was enamored with the style and energy that was infused in choreography of the late 90's. I still, secretly, would love to be in a boy band. After dancing in my school's production of Oklahoma! I had the confidence to audition for the school dance company. Our public high school was very fortunate to have a principal and board that supported the arts. We had a dance program of about 300 students and an elite company of 15, all directed by two dance faculty teachers. I made the company and took more dance classes at local community colleges. There I was encouraged to pursue dance as a career and heard about Texas Christian University. TCU has a great dance department and was the first university to offer a degree in Ballet. During the summers I went to the American Dance Festival where I took many classes and saw many dance companies. After graduation, I was very fortunate to work with the Bruce Wood project and participate in the Texas Ballet Theater Summer Intensive.

What do you hope to achieve in your future with ClancyWorks?
Within ClancyWorks, I hope to hone details of my craft such as clarifying focus, connecting with the audience, seeing where I am in space, feeling the energy move from core through my fingertips and toes. I want to work on challenging myself, setting my own goals, and consistently meeting and exceeding them. I am glad that I get so many opportunities to grow in the area of teaching- it is a completely different animal and I love that I am giving back to the place that I started - public schools. I get to be a part of the cycle of arts integration with education.

I also look forward to the personal growth as a human. I am daily amazed by the commitment of the other dancers in the company. Their commitment to dance inspires me to work harder. I hope to inspire them as well.
