▪ Yelp to soon to post health department scores/inspections ▪ Gangsters and milk ▪ For Schools - Training dates and new sodium restrictions ▪ Food Safety Training Courses and Discounts
Yelp Inc., the business and restaurant review site, has started adding health department inspection scores to information it provides about restaurants and other eateries as part of a plan to be more useful to consumers while promoting public health.
The cities of SF and NY are already providing this data to Yelp and this information will be going online in coming weeks. In addition to health ratings, Yelp will link to a full report that logs all inspections, including a list of all violations.
In the event your city or county does not want to provide this data to Yelp, don't worry it's all public record and it's a matter of time before everyone will see it anyway.

What does Al Capone and milk have in common?
Everybody knows about the notorious Al Capone. He was an American gangster who led a Prohibition-era crime syndicate, which became known as the "Capones." The Capones were dedicated to smuggling and bootlegging liquor, and other illegal activities in Chicago from the early 1920s to 1931.
However, despite his illegitimate occupation, Capone became a highly visible public figure. He made donations to various charitable programs and was viewed by many as a "modern day" Robin Hood. At one point, he donated $1 million to be used to buy milk for school children, but with one condition. Having bad memories of having to drink sour milk as a child in poverty, he insisted that an expiration date be put on the milk containers which had never before existed. Today, just about everything has an expiration or use by date...all because of a gangster.
