50th ANNIVERSARY OF CIVIL RIGHTS MARCH IN CHARLOTTE
March 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the civil rights march in Charlotte in which many Johnson C. Smith students and faculty participated. Hundreds participated in the petition drive, march to the post office, and rally at Johnson C. Smith for demands that became the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The event was organized by Davidson College students and included participation from several colleges throughout the Piedmont section of the state.

On Saturday March 29 Davidson College is hosting a campus reunion of those march participants to commemorate the event and to reflect on the civil rights straggle, then and now. A panel discussion at the Alvarez Student Union at 3 pm will be followed by a 5 pm reception and then dinner at the Brickhouse restaurant in Davidson.

For any questions, contact Rebekah Ayscue in the Davidson Alumni office at 704-894-2450 or reayscue@davidson.edu.
