Irving Penn was a great American photographer (1917-2009) known for his fashion photography, portraits, and still life images. 'Irving Penn started photographing flowers for the Christmas edition of American Vogue in 1967 and continued to explore the genre for 40 years. His apparent simplistic compositions are void of sentimentality and focus on the detail, form and wonder of each specimen.'
Although the Susan Spiritus Gallery has never carried any work by this artist, it is a pleasure and honor to have received this one spectacular image by Irving Penn, Poppy, Glowing Embers, from a private collector who has decided that it is time for it to find a new home!
Poppy, Glowing Embers is a dye transfer photograph that was printed in a limited edition of 19, 1968/1989. It is signed by the artist and measures approximately 17.5 x 21.9". It is in pristine condition and framed. It has a lovey provenance in that it has been in one family's private collection since it was originally acquired.
Each year since 2006 this photograph has come up at auction and sold consistently through 2011 with it reaching a higher price point that previously reached.
Poppy, Glowing Embers is now available for sale privately through Susan Spiritus Gallery.

News from Susan Spiritus Gallery
I am delighted to announce that the Susan Spiritus Gallery has been invited to participate in the new, soon to be released, Amazon Art Platform! I am working very diligently and trying to get work up on the platform in time for the big launch.
Susan Spiritus Gallery also has a bookstore page on Amazon.com on which we are offering new, rare and out of print books, but due to technicalities of not being able to have a business name listed twice on the site, I have had to offer the books on Amazon.com listed as: Susan S. books, but rest assured that the books are from the gallery!
Preparations are underway to create the October 2013 newsletter which will celebrate the life and extraordinary photographic career of George A. Tice, with whom I am proud to have been affiliated since 1976! With George Tice being the very first artist represented by the Susan Spiritus Gallery, we are happy to be the gallery that George Tice has had the longest affiliation with throughout his entire career!
