Tuesday, May 28th @ 6:30pm: TPP Forum
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a secretive trade agreement and the scariest of scary bad ideas, could put our actual sovereignty at risk. One may already feel that industry runs our government via massive campaign donations, lobbyists and ALEC-written laws, but TPP would make it official. TPP offers corporations global control over and above sovereign governments.
The trade agreement affects the anti-fracking community directly in that it would undo any protections from local fracking bans or community bills of rights. How should we respond?
Please attend What You Can Do to Impact the Biggest Trade Deal Ever. The forum will be held Tuesday, May 28th, 6:30- 9pm, at ALL SOULS UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH (enter Reidy Hall via garden at 1157 Lexington Avenue, between 79th and 80th Streets, Manhattan).
You'll find out how TPP could impact our lives, including the risk that it would:
• Open the floodgates of natural gas exports, and increase fracking across the U.S.
• Establish the legal right to override sovereign U.S. policies at the federal, state, local and court levels. The United States of America would function as a sovereign state no longer.
• Give foreign corporations the right to sue our government outside the U.S. court system for profits they might make if they didn't have to obey our labor, health, safety and environmental laws. In recent history, this has had a chilling effect on passing such laws in the first place.
• Extend patent expiration dates, blocking access to affordable, generic medications and costing millions of lives in developing countries where generic HIV drugs are the only affordable option.
• Limit food labeling and permit foreign food imports without any safety checks.
• Prevent any re-regulation of Wall Street banks, hedge funds and insurance companies.
Few people have even heard about TPP, including legislators. We need a full-on campaign that gets the word out quickly and puts the brakes on this fast-moving initiative. Please get involved!

NYC Sierra Club presents the fourth in its Sustainability Series, "Off the Grid: Plausible or Pipe Dream?" a panel discussion featuring host of WBAI's EcoLogic, Ken Gale, Sierra Club's Tom Wysmuller, and solar expert Richard Klein of Quixotic Systems.
What does "living off the grid" mean in a city of 8 million interdependent residents? Is that just some hippy-dippy ideal, or how far can urbanites can go towards significant achievements in energy reduction?
