James Rollins - February 10th, 10:00am in the Blue Heron Studio

James Rollins is a high-octane thriller writer in the same league as James Patterson, Tom Clancy, and Michael Crichton, to name a few. His latest novel is a Globe and Mail best seller and he is Rollin' into town on Sunday, February 10th. This is one of only two stops James Rollins is making in Canada!

Rollins' Sigma Force series has been deemed a "top crowd pleaser" by the New York Times. He is an imaginative and original author that navigates his high speed adventures and scientific plot twists accurately and convincingly. His novels, whether part of a series or stand alone books, are the definition of page-turning, can't-put-it-down, won't-put-out-the-light, need-to-know-how-it-ends writing.

In addition to being a rare opportunity to hear James Rollins, it is an opportunity to support the G-Moms in their efforts to fund raise for the Stephen Lewis Foundation. The 'grateful grannies" that comprise the G-Moms work to support African grandmothers tasked with raising a generation of AIDS orphans.

Each $30 ticket includes a $15 book voucher, refreshments and $10 donation to the G-Moms.

Books and Brunch with Colin McAdam

April 7th, 11:00am at Wooden Sticks Golf Club

Colin McAdam will be on hand for the release of his new novel, A Beautiful Truth. His 2009 novel, The Fall, was a Scotiabank Giller Prize nominee.

"McAdam's language reaches into that mysterious place where a word ends and a feeling begins. A Beautiful Truth is a story about love and beauty and our dreams for our children and our inescapable loneliness. The characters, human and animal, are sad and honest and true. I could not put this novel down, and only when I finished it could I breathe again." - Kim Echlin, Author of The Disappeared

Tickets are $25 and include full brunch.

Books and Brunch with Susanna Kearsley

April 28th, 11:00am at Wooden Sticks Golf Club

Blue Heron Books favourite, Susanna Kearsley will be launching her new book, The Firebird.

Nicola Marter was born with a gift. When she touches an object, she sometimes sees images; glimpses of those who have owned it before. It’s never been a gift she wants, and she keeps it a secret from most people, including her practical boss Sebastian, one of London’s premier dealers in Russian art.

But when a woman offers Sebastian a small wooden carving for sale, claiming it belonged to Russia’s Empress Catherine, it’s a problem. There’s no proof. Sebastian believes that the plain carving—known as “The Firebird”—is worthless. But Nicola’s held it, and she knows the woman is telling the truth, and is in desperate need of the money the sale of the heirloom could bring.

As a former museum curator, Susanna Kearsley brings her own passion for research and travel to her novels, weaving modern-day and historical intrigue. She won the prestigious Catherine Cookson Fiction Award for her novel Mariana, the 2010 Romantic Times Book Reviews Reviewer's Choice Award for Best Historical Fiction novel for The Winter Sea, was shortlisted for a 2012 RITA Award for The Rose Garden, and was a finalist for the Arthur Ellis Award for Best Novel from the Canadian Crime Writer’s Association for Every Secret Thing. She lives outside Toronto, Canada.

Academy award nominated actor Meg Tilly was in town for a series of school visits to promote her new book, A Taste of Heaven when she dropped by the store.

a taste of heaven

A funny and touchingly realistic portrait of young friendship from a critically acclaimed author and actor.

Madison Stokes leads a pretty average life: average mom and dad, average looks, average grades—well, maybe her little sister is MUCH brattier than average—but nothing out of the ordinary.

All that changes when quiet, secretive Alyssa Hawkins moves to town. When Madison takes Alyssa under her wing, the two girls quickly bond over chocolate-chip cookies and become best friends. Amazingly, Alyssa doesn’t even mind Madison’s bratty sister!

But there are some things Alyssa still won’t share. Why won’t she talk about her family? And why is she so reluctant to have Madison over to her house? She’s harbouring a secret that could put their treasured friendship in jeopardy—and when Madison finds out by accident, Alyssa makes Madison promise not to tell anyone, not even Madison’s parents.

But should Madison tell them anyway? When is it all right to tell a little white lie… and when should you come clean with the truth?
