Return season Ben Lomas in 'The Caffeinator'

Ben Lomas' hilarious show 'The Caffeinator' - a massive sell out hit at this year's Melbourne International Comedy Festival - is returning to Melbourne for two final nights on the 4th and 5th of October!
'The Caffeinator' is an uproarious journey through Melbourne’s coffee obsession which wowed Melbourne's coffee lovers and played to full houses every night of its comedy festival run. Ben has visited hundreds of cafes, attended the World Barista Championships, and stepped behind the coffee machine himself to create one of 2013’s funniest and most memorable shows.

From Mosque to Opera

Directed by Will Wroth (Netherlands)

Will Wroth (Netherlands), directs a performance of English Musical Theatre from the Renaissance to the Baroque, including excerpts from John Blow’s ‘Venus & Adonis’ and Henry Purcell’s ‘Dioclesian’. This performance will feature vocal, string and brass students from the MCM, along with leaders of Melbourne’s early music community.
When & Where: Friday 11 October 2013, 7.30pm at the Melba Hall, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Gate 12 Royal Parade, Parkville
Admission: Free. No bookings required.

About Will Wroth
Will Wroth’s early musical schooling was centred around rigorous vocal training under an ex-King’s College chorister between the ages of 9 and 16 – a solid singing education which firmly established his love for, and familiarity with, the great Anglican choral tradition. He studied both violin and trumpet, alongside his multiple choral activities, and was playing professionally by the age of 15.
He studied for the Bachelor of Music (performance/musicology) at Sydney University, went on to the Canberra School of Music to specialise in baroque trumpet, and moved to the Netherlands in 1992, receiving the Certificaat from the Royal Conservatorium in the Hague in 1995. Since then, Will has established himself as one of Europe’s leading players, and has featured as a soloist on several important recent recordings (Brandenburg Concerto, Tafelmusik etc). He still plays regularly with many of the leading ensembles in the Netherlands and abroad.
A lifelong love of 17th and 18th century English literature, theatre, and music has led him to make a particular study of the relationship between culture, text and music during the English Restoration up to the death of Handel. He’s now putting that knowledge and experience into practice through his work with Restoration Company.

Johannes Vermeer, A Young Woman Standing at a Virginal, c.1670-2, The National Gallery London

VERMEER AND MUSIC: THE ART OF LOVE AND LEISURE

Discover works of love and leisure by the painter of Girl with the Pearl Earring

Johannes Vermeer is the third artist profiled in 2013 as part of the acclaimed cinema-exclusive event series EXHIBITION: GREAT ON SCREEN. A global revolution showcasing the world’s greatest fine art exhibitions, uniquely created exclusively for cinema audiences worldwide.

VERMEER AND MUSIC, direct from the National Gallery, London, will screen for a strictly limited season from Saturday 19 October in Australian cinemas.

The National Gallery, London, is offering a fresh look at one of the most startling and fascinating artists of all – Johannes Vermeer, painter of the famous Girl with the Pearl Earring. The National Gallery has chosen to focus on Vermeer’s relationship with music. It is one of the most popular themes of Dutch painting and reveals an enormous amount about the sitter and the society they lived in. New research, revealed for the first time at this exhibition, shows how his technique and materials affected his works.

Tim Marlow goes beyond the exhibition to tell the entire story of Vermeer’s life – and, in doing so, shows in fabulous HD detail many other of the artist’s captivating works.

For those inspired by the 2003 film, Girl with a Pearl Earring, starring Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson, this new, cinematic exploration will take their enjoyment and fascination of Vermeer’s life and work to a new level.

Tickets are on sale now from participating cinemas: www.exhibitiononscreen.com
