Kolkata’s landmark hotel Great Eastern reopens after renovation...
The Great Eastern Hotel is a prominent landmark of Calcutta. It opened in 1842 as the Auckland Hotel and changed hands many times, before the State Government took it over after India's independence.
This iconic structure from the days of the British Raj got a new lease of life, after the Lalit Group of Hotels, gave it a massive face lift, and it opened its doors to the public in its new avatar as the Lalit Great Eastern Hotel.
Its located in the central business district and has hosted some very illustrious folks from Mahatma Gandhi, The Queen of England and Nikita Khruschev to name a few.

What started as a work of passion has today turned into a Heritage transport Museum, spread across an area of over 90,000 sq ft, a first of its kind and scale in the country. On display are over 75 cars, a railway saloon, bullock carts, palanquins, and the works, - in short, an evolution on wheels.
Recently opened in the National Capital region the ‘evolution of wheels’ - is a work of evolution in itself.
For, it took an auto enthusiast over 20 meticulous years to collect, restore and maintain artefacts that many would dismiss as mere pieces of junk. Even the concept of a museum took over three years to take shape, owning to various issues.
The museum takes visitors on a roller-coaster ride-right from the advent of the wheel in India to the means of transportation we avail ourselves of today. Not to be missed.

Kerala's Muziris Heritage Project opens four New Museums...
People can now learn about the history and culture of a part of Kerala with the government opening In a bid to showcase the history and culture of Kerala, the state Govt has opened four museums around Paravur and Chennamangalam towns, located 30 Km north of Cochin.
Opened under the Muziris Heritage Project, are the Kerala History Museum, the lifestyle museum, Kerala Jewish History Museum, and Jewish Lifestyle Museum.
The four museums together will present a comprehensive picture of the political and cultural history and lifestyle of the region.
All museums are equipped with video screens, touch screens and information panels to help the visitors understand the rich history of the region. They are open from 10 am to 5 pm on all days except Monday.
You can also visit other heritage sites in the area, including Paravur market, Kottappuram Fort, Kottapuram market, Cheraman Juma Masjid, Gothuruthu Performance Center and Pallipuram Fort.

Heritage train chugs along Himalayas
A 109-year-old British era steam engine, considered an engineering marvel, the locomotive KC 520 dating back to 1905 and boasting a rich history of 109 years once again chugged down the Kalka-Shimla heritage track between Shimla and Kathlighat. The one-way 22-km journey between these two stations, located on the Shimla-Kalka 2'6" gauge line (unusual for a narrow gauge mountain line rail line) that figures in UNESCO World Heritage site list, takes more than one hour.
You can now hire two or three coaches of the locomotive KC 520 train by paying one-time rent for a family holiday or for your official trips. The collective space of two or three coaches is enough to accommodate up to 40 passengers. The passengers will be served delectable food on board as per the hospitality service.
