Backbone galvanizes after SERIOUS funding cuts

Help save Backbone Youth Arts!

Last week, Arts Queensland announced that Backbone Youth Arts did not receive operational funding.

We have been touched by the many expressions of support from the community and thank you for your concern.

We have just 7 weeks left of Arts Queensland funding, but we are determined to keep going.

We are reaching out to our networks and supporters to help us through this difficult time.

A little support from many people will make a huge difference to us. Please help us raise the funds to cover our operational costs over the coming months while we ready ourselves for the challenge ahead.

Backbone Youth Arts inspires, empowers and equips young people’s creative futures, laying foundations for a generation of arts and cultural practitioners. Our professional development programs like Backbone 2high Festival, our workshops and ensembles provide the groundwork for young arts-workers and artists to take their first steps in industry practice, guided by expert mentors.

Your generous donation could help us stay afloat for a couple more months, while we look for new income sources. We plan to keep going, to throw all our energy into keeping our 25 year history alive. Youth Arts is just too important not to.

We can do it, but we need your support.

And this is how you can help;

Losing our funding means we can no longer pay our office and workshop space rent. Running workshops is a crucial income generator for us. If you know any landlords who could support us with free office or workshop space while we get back on our feet, please get in touch. Call the Backbone office on (07) 3210 2666
Spread the word, talk, talk up the value and impact of youth arts, http://www.yaq.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/value-and-impact-of-youth-arts_YAQ-research.pdf

How much would you be willing to invest to ensure that the most powerful inspirational, life changing creative processes are available to young and emerging arts and cultural practitioners?

6 INSPIRATIONAL ORGANISATIONS DEFUNDED
Along with Backbone Youth Arts, Contact Inc, Youth Arts Queensland, Feral Arts, Queensland Youth Orchestra and Vulcana Women’s Circus all lost their funding.

All of these companies are significant contributors to the arts and cultural landscape in Queensland, if not nationally and internationally. This is an unexpected diminution of the youth arts sector in SE Queensland.

We are determined to keep going so that another generation may enjoy access to youth arts.

With thanks,
Sue Rider
